Hi, if you determine that you need a new battery, there are many choices, I went with the AC Delco Pro that is made for the car, many other posters swear by the Optima, and others swear by just about any brand that will physically fit in the car. And there are always horror stories about just about any of them in certain instances. The few things that most agree on is to get a battery that is sealed for cleanliness so as not to leak on the computer and vacum stuff under the tray, and if you get a battery that is not sealed, at least use a battery acid absorbing mat under it, also use a proper battery maintainer if you are not using the car for a few days. Red top or yellow top what’s batter?


If I have the car but don drive very often but I will still use a battery charger witch one should I buy?

 

If you are narrowing your choice to Optima Red or Yellow, you should know that the yellow is really made for other types of applications, it is a deep discharge battery, it has advantages for applications needing heavy electric capabilities, like huge stereo units, marine use, and anything that will sustain heavy discharging as a rule. The disadvantage is that it is more difficult to maintain a full charge, needs more powerful charging equipment, and has less start/charge cycles built into it than a more normal car start battery. It will work, but it puts an additional strain on the alt, and you will pay much more for it, and it will not last longer than a less expensive battery. The Red is more appropriate than the yellow for a normal car or even the vette. If you choose to use a battery maintainer on the redtop, you must make sure that you use one that specifically says that it will keep an AGM battery full charged, and has at least a 1.25 amp charge rate, and special circuitry for an AGM. Now I'm sure others have differing opinions on which is better and maybe some will post, but that is my opinion on the Red / Yellow decision. Ultimatly I would not choose either for my vette, because the AC Delco Pro is an excellant battery with a 50 month Free replacement, and the remainder of 7 yrs pro rata , and is less costly to buy. But I have no reason to say that a Red or yellow will not work, they just need some special handling to get the full potential out of them.
