I want to get that louder meaty sound i hear on some c5 and Z28's. What would i need? And what brands would you recommend. Also is this something your averege exhaust shop could do or is it a more specialized install? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! For the record i am looking to spend 2,000 with the install.
Get an X pipe and a set of Borla's. Be ready for a little drone. Install time is well under an hour if you have a way to get the tail high enough to get the stock exhaust off.

Are the borla stingers with the x pipe gonna sound good?

Be sure you do your due diligence before making a decision to buy a new exhaust. Most people have gone through more than one aftermarket exhaust it seems, in some cases 3 or 4, because they didn't do enough research about them before making a decision. I've spent dozens of hours researching the various aftermarket exhausts online, listening to sound and a/v files, and listening to as many different exhausts in person as I could to try and make a decision myself.
I've come very close to purchasing a few different exhausts only to find out something about it that was a deal breaker for me. For example, the Borla Stingers that someone recommended to you will drone so bad you just might want to shoot yourself if your Vette is your daily driver, or even if you like to take the occasional 50+ mile roadtrip. They sound fantastic around town, but on the highway when you don't want to hear them, they drone like the devil from about 60-80 mph by all accounts (~1500-2200 RPM range).
Just be careful and do your research. Most of the high performance exhausts will drone it seems, but you should be ok if you go with a Touring exhaust. That may not be meaty enough for you though depending on what you're looking for. It's all about preference. I provided some information in another post you should probably look at if you haven't read it already. Just my observations from the research I've done...
if you get a high flow cat X pipe and borla stingers, you dont need to do anything, you may want to get new 02's for good measure. An "off road" X pipe and the stingers, look out, that would cost 1k prob, most muffler shops can do it in a half hour while you wait, just MAKE SURE they jack it right! youll get a rush, everytime you fire it up! great mod for the $, go with a blackwing or a new cai and youll have quite a bit more stab out than those camaros and chumpstangs!
I went w/granatelli.... only cost me $500! Doesn't need a retune, and I will soon be going with some headers. There is practically zero drone with this kit, and it really screams above 3000rpm.

I have the quad-tip Borla Stingers and with pup-cats as OEM on my 01, the sound is NOT intrusive or irritating at all. I think the quad-tips are a bit more mellow than the dual tip versions. The sound is nothing short of amazing at idle and WOT. Magnaflows have a somewhat similar sound and are polished throughout (a nice touch). I was fortunate enough to be able to listen to quite a few exhaust systems at a dyno-day event. Included were Corsa Indy and Pace, GHLs, Bassani, Magnaflows, and of course, Borlas. It was then that I decided to buy the Borla Stingers, which to me, sounded closest to my 68's exhaust (Doug Thorley headers and Dynomax superturbo mufflers).
The X-pipe will cut back on the popping sound you'd hear when deccelerating. I like that sound, so I left the factory H-pipe in place.
Most Cat-backs can be installed at home, although you have to get the rear end up at least 39 inches high to get the right-side over-the-axle pipe out without cutting it. I used a few pieces of 6x6 lumbar to stack on top of the floor jack cradle, but I didn't dare crawl under the car while they were in place.
I just put Dynatech Headers, Hi-Flow Cats, X-pipe Exhaust, and Corsa Touring Edition Exhaust System on my 2004 Coupe. WOW!!! Great improvement in proforance and sound. The Corsa "Touring Edition" are quite cruising and sound great during launch, so I vote Corsa Touring Edition Exhaust System for under $1200.
Clips on a computer are useless. Go to a few car shows in your area, and LISTEN WITH YOUR OWN EARS to different exhausts. Ask if you can go for a ride to see how it sounds INSIDE the car at different speeds. That is the only way to really tell what you like. All the other things about exhaust are so subjective, that this sort of inquiry here is a waste of time for you.

I don't think I agree. By searching videos and asking people their opinions you can get a pretty good general idea on how an exhaust sounds. I bought my exhaust based on how it sounded online, and I have no regrets. I do agree that different clips will make an exhaust sound different depending on the camera, so it is very important to hear as many as possible. I would never buy an exhaust based on a "sound clip" on a manufacturers website.
You need some corsa pace cars and American Racing headers. The corsa pace car mufflers are quiet when you want them to be and loud as ***** when you stomp on that throttle.
