Default Torque Wrench

Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Griot's Garage digital torque wrench?

http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...-2%22+drive.do

If anyone has it could you post your opinion on the quality and who makes it? Thanks.

I don't know, but for the prices they ask you can get Snap-On and their quality is stellar.

I agree that Snap On's quality is stellar BUT their 1/2" drive digital torque wrench list price is $468. Griot's is $178.

Just wanting to know if anyone has experience with the Griot's Garage model.

I looked at one for ~$500 somewhere and was like "well never blinkin mind.." but ~$200 isn't so bad.

That looks like a good price. It comes with a calibration certificate and they provide free life time testing services. Of course it doesn't say free life time warranty. I looked at the Craftsman Tools web page and they offer a number of famous brand torque wrenchs with prices over a $1000 but I didn't see any warranty info on the ones that were in this price range.

For the money I don't really see how this beats a clicker wrench. With a clicker you don't need batteries and they can be calibrated as accurately as this one can be. Some times they apply technology to things that don't need technology.

I've bought several items from Griot and have been satisfied with all.

My crafstman just died and I went to get another and the new ones seem cheesy, so I sucked it up and bought a Matco. I don't care for any digital stuff. I don't want to worry about getting it wet or dropping it.

GRIOT'S GARAGE used to offer a lifetime warranty on all of their tools. I had them replace one of their nice hacksaws for me a couple of years ago.
I also have a PORTER CABLE random orbital that I bought many years ago from them, but I can't break it...

I agree that sometimes technology is applied to things that don't need it but I like all things digital, LOL.

The digital torque wrench just seems that it would be easier to set, easier to read and possibly more accurate since there are no mechanical settings to wear.

I currently use a Craftsman 1/2" drive "clicker" 20-200 ft. lbs., and it works very well. I'm just looking to upgrade to the new technology. My torque wrench use is pretty much limited to my lug nuts so I don't use it a lot. Do I need a digital torque wrench? Nah. Do I want one? Absolutely!

I got the Snap-On's. Looked around a bit and thought they were worth the investment since I have been doing alot of wrenching over the last few years.

Now don't you be dropping those expensive, finely-assembled and tuned torque wrenches! Plays havoc with the calibration.
