Just a quick question for ya. Do most of you guys with blown built motors raise the Rev limiter to around 7000rpm and just try to shift before then or do you leave it around the stock location boucing of it from time to time? Just wondering if leaving the rev limiter a 7K is too high as I know I am not making power up there but the idea behind this is to never hit the rev limiter by accident as I am guessing its not like a soft touch limiter where it just cuts sparks not fuel.
This is a lot of personal choice. A lot of people do define a conservative limit, say 6800, and also want to shift there, and as such, are always hitting the limiter. This is even worse if the only reliance is on the stock tach, as it has significant lag to it. You'll always hit the limiter before you see it on the gauge.
I personally hate hitting the rev limiter, so I set it considerably higher than I ever intend to rev to.
For a planned 7000rpm shift point, I have my rev limit set at 7200, and a Raptor shift light set at 6900.When the light goes on, I react and shift...and at that point, the stock tach is several hundred rpm behind.
