Default BBK Shorty Headers WTF

I while ago I purchased a pair of BBK Shorty headers off a corvette forum member. They came off of his 99 (I have a 98). I did a little research and the bbk shorty headers for this year are supposed to fit 97-99. Well I'm mounting them up today and it looks like they are too short. WTF? Has anybody run into this problem?

Does anybody know of a way I can verify what model number these things are? It certainly seems that they should work on 97-99. But they don't want to work on my 98.

Does anybody know for sure what shorty headers work on a 98? I don't want to buy another pair only to find out that I'm in the same boat.

These things will definitly NOT work on my 98. They are like 2-3 inches too short and are not at the right angle. The EGR stuff seems to be in the right place and the oil dipstick mount was a little tight. Do they come with an adapter or somthing.

I bet I know what happened. Looks like the member I bought it from was also running an x-pipe so these weren't really for a stock 99. Crap. He probably bought the setup used and wasn't sure what they were for. Not really out any money as I assume I can sell them for what I paid for them...I just need a replacement now!!

Yeah I suspect these are for the 2000 since the EGR crap is still in the right place.

The only thing differant between all the years C5 is the placement of the air tubes. They all will fit from 97-04 if you just cap off the air tubes with block off plates. I don't know why they won't fit because the design and fitment is the same for all years.

Just had a thought, some years had what they call pup cats that bolt the the manifolds but not sure what year. Don't know if that makes any differance or not. Somebody has to know

If they are 2 - 3 inches short, they are probably for a 2000. The 2000's had pup cats that required the manifold to be slightly shorter.

Yeah, that is my guess that they are for the 2000. The EGR crap is in the correct location but they are 2-3 inches shorter. My brothers 04 has the EGR stuff in a diff location. Looks like BBK makes 3 different models 1)97-99 2)2000 3)2001-2004.

The air tubes are in the right place but the flanges are like 2-3 inches away from where they need to be and come in at a different angle.

Oh ok, I understand now. That sucks. Maybe a muffler shop can add a small piece on each side or something like that. I hate it when crap like that happens.

Are you talking about a C5 or F-body? There is no EGR on a C5.

Maybe I'm mislabeling it. Its the air horn I'm referring to.

The reason why I'm determined that they are the 2000 model is because BBK makes 3 models. 1)97-99 2)2000, 3)2001-2004. Because they do not fit my 98 they can't be the 97-99 model. Because my brother has a 04 (his air tube mounts are in a diff location as well as his dipstick mount) they can't be the 01-04 model. That leaves us with the 2000 model. My brothers 04 does have pup cats, my 98 does not, not sure when they started installing those.

There is another member that ran accross this exact issue. He had a muffler shop mod the h-pipe to pit. He said it was in the range of $50-$100 with my luck it would probably be closer to $100, heck they charged me $100 to but my Z06 Ti exhaust on. I'm planning on selling them as I want a pair of headers that will work now!

This may seem like a crazy approach, but have you considered contacting BBK?
