Default C5 - shocks

I am in the process of replacing my shocks and in doing so would like some advice as what my best options are. My car is a 99 with 29K miles. The car is supercharged pushing a little over 500 HP at the rear wheels. I am also in the process of changing the rims and tires. Probably going with 19's on the front and 20's on the rear. I would like to install a shock that will give some comfort regarding softness of the ride but most importantly a shock that is made for performance. Any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

I know when I replace the shocks on my 00 coupe I plan to go with the C6 Z06 shocks. Search this forum you will find lots of info.

thats alot of car there pal... ive got a stock 1999 coupe. i bought bilstiens and am real happy with the upgrade over delco. wow the ride is better but the real improvment was in the stability during hard cornering... no dip at all very satisfied however your car is a beast that eats and breathes at the same time with that blower...good luck

Hi.. I replaced the stock shocks in my 00 coupe with Bilstien Sports ( I also lowered the car & installed Z06 Sway bars frnt & rr)... the difference is astounding...corners and rides level, holds the road great, no "floating" and the ride is not harsh as some say the Bilsteins are..
For the price they provide a great improvement over stock..
Now if you have deep pockets, the adjustable coil overs would be the ultimate..

If you go with C5 ZO6 sway bars and metal end links and install the new C6 ZO6 shocks you will NOT be sorry! Im really happy with mine and so is my wallet.

There about $240 for ALL FOUR shocks and they work phenomenal! There 100% bolt in without any issues!

I installed them on my 02 ZO6 and I saw a really nice improvement in cornering stability and only a very slight increase in over harshness compared to the stock 50,000 mile C5 Z stock shocks.
Call Gene Culley for the best prices on those shocks.

You can spend a LOT more money on other shocks that will give you similar gains in handling.

I'm assuming that you are wanting a shock that is as soft (or softer) than the OE shocks, but want something that corners better.

Soft and high performance are just about oxymorons, unless you get adjustable shocks, which would let you set them for cruising or handling.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Get some Bilstein Sports or HD if you want a softer ride stock shocks are just another low bid item and will never last like a Bilstein before performance is lost. OEM's pay squat for shocks so that should tell you how they are made. It is certainly not to last. You can get Bilstein re-valved and rebuilt so even a used set has some value. Granted rebuilding and revalving is not much short of new price but it would have some value to a RR guy. I have them on my trucks and they are great

I am just two weeks into new shocks on my '99 vert. I went with C6 shocks from a Z06. So far they are GREAT. I'm very pleased. They are smooth and easy to live with on a trip and firm in the corners. I would buy the same thing again with no regrets.

A more expensive option than Bill Curlee's suggestion is the Koni FSD.

You can do a search in the forum on these. Lot of people happy with them.

Also Pfadt just came out with adjustable sport shocks which might interest you.
