Thank you for the input. My thinking is, this oil is designed to go 2 years, 15000 mi. I believe, without change in higher heat cars. I will not go any longer than 5000. I do not run an oil cooler. It seems like this could be better protection for the engine on track day.
If it turns out that I'm wrong in my thinking on this,(usually everytime I think,I get in trouble) I will drain it.
I guess I dont see the real advantage. Maybe my logic may be flawed, but with a 0w40 oil, you may use slightly less fuel/gain power during warm up, but then your oil is a thicker viscosity when hot, 40 weight instead of 30 weight, which I believe would create more drag, use more fuel/lose power while hot, but I am sure this is so slight it wouldnt be noticed by the driver. I dont know about anyone else, but my engine spends only a few minutes until the oil is up to temp. I thought the original intent on going to the thinner oils such as 5w30, 5w20 was to get the engines up to temp quicker to reduce emissions output and use slightly less fuel than their thicker counterparts. Feel free to correct me if wrong.
Not all engines run at 212, which is where the flow characteristics are measured. What is your engine operates with an oil temp of 230 or 250 or even 300? 30 weight is too thin. The idea is to get the oil to have the same flow/protection characteristics as a 30 at 212 at whatever temp you are running.
Not everyone has a stock Corvette, stock engine (heck mines an iron 408 which cruises with higher oil temps), not everyone takes their Vette to work (hello track days!), etc, etc.

Remember that our manuals tell us to drain when the D.I.C. says so OR 1 year, whichever comes first. I change my oil every year at about 5200 miles.
I'm thinking of purchasing Mobil 1 0W40 for the 1st time to try it on the road courses (HPDE) this summer. I've heard only good things about this oil/weight.
I use 0W40 for Jan and Feb events. then back to 15w50 for Late Feb though DEC track events.
Lots of guys use 0w40 for HPDEs do to the HIGHER HEAT tolerance ( HTHS High Temp Heat Sheer )then 5-w30

OK, I have a few #s. Cold start up, oil pressure jumped to 42psi then settled in at 38. At 70 mph, 44 to 45 psi. Warm idle,31 to 32. Hammered throttle, 62psi. 190* oil temp.
btw. this is with a mobil 1 filter.
I've been running 0w40 for almost 2 years, and have the same #'s. So far so good..
