Default First fire - what oil to use?

I'm getting pretty close to starting my car after my heads, cam, intake, exhaust swap. My plan is to change the old oil before I start it. Then I will let it run for 25-30min and change the oil again. Because the oil will only be in there for a few mins I don't really want to fill it with synthetic. However, I don't want to risk damaging the motor. What do you guys recommend?

Soak your lifters in oil, lube your cam with moly or assembly lube, put synthetic in it and drive it. You're not breaking in a flat tappet cam, so just drive it and change the oil in 3k. Only time you need to worry about that in a roller cam engine is if you're breaking in the rings.

Too late to soak the lifters in oil and coat the cam with lube. I just coated the lifters and cam with oil as I inserted them. I'm just concerned about all the little particles that may have found their way into the motor during the build.

Well then, get some cheap store brand oil and run the engine for a few minutes to get things stirred up and let it out. You're not going to hurt anything letting the engine idle for 30 minutes with some cheap oil.

Just throw some autoparts store named brand special in there and let it idle a bit

What oil is in there now? Did you spill coolant into the motor? If you have good oil and no coolant dump, fire it with the oil that is in there. I would't drain the system, it will take that much longer to get pressure.

Well, when I took the heads off, not sure what found its way down the lifter valley. I would imagine that some coolant did. I plan to fill the oil filter with oil when I change it as to have pressure sooner.

Any reason why I might not want to pull the injector fuse and crank it over for a few secs to get oil pressure that way?

No, pull the plugs and the coil connectors as well. Note you will get a bunch of error codes doing this. Dumping the filter will also empty the internal passages that are now full, this was my reason stated above.

Every spring before I start my car for the first time I pull the injector fuse and I haven't had a problem. I did try once pulling the ignition fuse and ended up flooding the motor...it went into limp mode fore several minutes...plus I'm sure it wasn't good for the plugs.
