Just out of curiosity, what are the capabilities of a car on ported stock LS1 heads. I have my eye on the ECS NA cam and would like to think about porting the stock heads as well. The ECS site advertises up to 425 whp with stock heads and supporting bolt ons, any idea if upwards to 450 would be possible through ported stockers.

Yeah... I am a cheap skate.
Not with LS1 heads. You might get 5 to 10 with 'full bolt ons"
Spend the money and get some decent pp 243 heads or some pp 5.3 heads from some one like TSP or ECS Money well spent
I am on ported ls1 heads(241s). Just made 430/398 after a Fast 90 install last week. Previous numbers on ported ls6 intake were 419/397. Went a best of 11.20@123 before the Fast install. Looking to go 10s this fall with the new intake. For reference, my cam is a Cartek 2x cam. Specs are 224/228 .590 113LSA.
If you are going to dump money in porting heads I would definitly get a set of ls6 heads for $350-400 on the FS section and use those. Cartek has gone over 500rwhp on ported ls6 heads and run 10.3s with them on them on a H/C car. So you can make power and run great times on stock ported heads.

Sweet, this is what I wanted to hear. I am willing to go with stock LS6 heads as well. Any idea what porting would cost me? Thanks ahead of time.

Its going to vary depending on how much porting you want to do and the reputation of the person doing the work. I'm sure you can have a backyard mechanic do it a lot cheaper than having somebody well known do it. I paid the extra money and had Cartek do mine because their product has proven itself time and again and wanted to do it right the first time.

we have made upwards of 500+ rwhp on a stock bottom end with ported stock heads. We have also had customers go 10.30 @132+mph on the same setup. 450 rwhp is not hard at all to achieve on ported stock heads.
It really comes down to the package and how aggressive or mild you decide to go. Give me a call if you have any questions.

^^I am in the same boat as you. I have an LS1 motor (99 FRC) and I bought the ECS cam and have a set of ported and polished LS1 heads. Have not yet installed and will be a while before I do so I can not give you results, but I am shooting for numbers similar to you.
There is a book out on the LS1/LS6 motors. Don't remember the author's name. It had a chapter on heads that included a comparison between the LS1 and LS6 heads stock, and ported and polished. If I recall correctly, the ported and polished LS1 heads seriously outflowed the stock LS6 heads.

That would definitely surprise me on the LS1 heads outflowing the LS6 heads. Did you have your LS1 heads milled, which LS1 heads do you have (apparrently there are more than one from what I gather, could be wrong though). I'll definitely be itnerested to hear your results as well.

Ported ls1 heads will outflow stock ls6 heads. Ported ls6 heads will outflow ported ls1 heads. All things equal, ls6 will always outflow the ls1s.

^^I bought my LS1 ported and polished heads used from another member on the forum. Got a great deal.
If I recall correctly, he said they were good for at least an extra 35 rwhp over stock heads. He was running the stock cam. I believe the heads were milled slightly, but had extensive porting and polishing done to them, as well as installing bigger valves and a whole bunch of goodies.
I will be quite curious to see how they work out, especially with the ECS cam. I would be happy to hit 425 rwhp. Anything more will be icing on the cake.
