Changing Plugs

On the 99 C5 is is it easier to change the back spark plugs from the top or the bottom, on either side of the car?

From the top is fine. on the drivers side it helps to disconnect the air injection hose,or unbolt the injection tube from the exhaust manifold and move it/them out of the way.

I just did mine 2 weeks ago, took all of 45 minutes.
Don't forget to use anti sieze on the plugs & dielectric grease on the plug boots.

Thanks for the advise. I think that it'll make the job much easier. I'm going to guess maybe an hour or so.

You can do it from the top and I found its a lot easier to do if you take off the coil packs.

Is it a good idea to change the plug wires at the same time? Are the wires usually fine or usually should be replaced at about 50,000 miles or any milage? Any ideas on how to check them out?

I changed the plug wires on my wifes 99 coupe when I did the plugs - almost 10 years old and they would be off anyway, so why not - plus I went with the red GM "performance" wires....

One picture (Figure #5) shows the plug wire being pulled off by pulling on the heat shield. Is that OK to do?

I can't imagine pulling the coils for that
I just use a swivel plug socket

Appreciate it. I took one off using the plug wire itself and it took forever so I put it off for another day. Should go easier now.
