Default Is catch can needed ?

I plan to do HPDE 3 to 4 times a year. Will catch can help engine last longer and perform better? Thanks for your input.

Theoretically, yes and yes. As far as I know, no one has used one for 200,000 miles and then torn apart the engine to see how much less carbon has built up on the pistons, but essentially, an intake manifold was never intended to be sprayed with engine oil.

Since nobody has responded to this I'll give you my $0.02. I added a catch can because of the following:

1) the engine burns the oil vapors
2) The pistons and the intake valves get coated with oil residue
3) The intake manifold always has some oil sitting in it
4) It just looks better

As for your other question, it can't be healthy for the engine to ingest all that oil!

Pretty much all GM, Ford, and Chrysler V8s, regardless of year. Supercharged models, as a general rule, produce more blowby and hence, more oil into the intake.

Street driving an racing on the track will cause much different oil vapor flow through the PCV system. Guys who road race can get a large amount of oil in thier catch cans during one track event.

If you drive mellow around town, then the amount of oil vapors will be much less.
