Got a major freon leak and it looks like the power cooler has to come off. Is this a major job and are there any special tools needed? Talked to two mechanics and neither wants to touch it. Looks like its gonna be a DIY. If anyone knows a mechanic in the New Orleans area that will take a job like this lmk.
Yes. The power cooler is covering the AC compressor and some of the lines. It appears the leak is under the cooler. Might have to fix it myself since I can't find a mechanic to do it.
I used to have the Vortech on my car. I had it apart several times. It isn't too bad of a job. It makes a little bit of a mess because of the coolant in the aftercooler but that is the worst of it.

Did you have to drain the radiator (intercooler is connected to the radiator, correct) or any way to drain the intercooler first? As you can see I'm a newbie. Just looking for tips to make things easy.
No, the intercooler has its own separate coolant supply.
The intercooler loop goes something like this; you have the intercooler, one line from that goes to a reservoir/pump located in the driver’s side fender, from there the circuit goes up through the fill/bleed tank located on the driver’s side above the exhaust manifold, from there it goes to the heat exchanger that is located in the nose in front of the radiator, finally the circuit goes from there back to the intercooler.
That’s from memory so it may not be exact but it is close.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a closer look tomorrow morning when I get off work.
