Default Help with Codes!!

I am a new Vette owner and my car is throwing a couple codes I would like some help troubleshooting. I looked in the "what the codes mean" paper but that really doesn't tell anything to me. The only think I know to be not working is the cruise control (it doesn't even regisiter anything on the display when I play with the switches so I think I have the vacuum problem that everyone talks about so I probably just need to buy a new stick).

Car is a 99 A4 Coupe.

1 - C1281 Steering Sensor Uncorrelated Malfunction

2 - B2285 Battery #2 Fault DCM-RIGHT

3 - U1016 Loss Of Communication with PCM (No SOH Message Received -RFA

4 - U1064 Loss Of Communication with DCM (No SOH Message Received -RFA

5 - U1096 Loss Of Communication with IPC (No SOH Message Received -RFA

Any help with any of these codes would be a huge help. I don't feel anything wrong with the car, but then again, I am not expert.

Thanks in advance!!

1 - C1281 Steering Sensor Uncorrelated Malfunction

You should have a SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING message coming up on the DIC if you option JL4 on the car. The Steering Wheel Position Sensor needs replacing

2 - B2285 Battery #2 Fault DCM-RIGHT

This error means that your passenger electric window (and some other door functions) is inoperative. The RDCM is not getting 12 volts from the electric system to drive the window. You either have a wiring problem to the RDCM or the RDCM needs replacement.

3 - U1016 Loss Of Communication with PCM (No SOH Message Received -RFA

4 - U1064 Loss Of Communication with DCM (No SOH Message Received -RFA

5 - U1096 Loss Of Communication with IPC (No SOH Message Received -RFA

3,4, and 5 ..... you need to post which module reported the error ... the original message on the DIC will look something like ...

B0RFA U1096H

which tells us the RFA could not communicate with the IPC. Are your remote key fobs working ???

Let us know how you want to proceed ... are my statements about the symptoms (SERVICE AH ... no working window ....) accurate ??

You are dead on about a number of things, but I am not sure if I need to fix them:

1 - Sometimes I get a Service Message, but usually not. I have seen it only two or 3 times in the 6 weeks I have owned the car. Should I do something about it?

2 - The pasenger window has the dreaded "shake the accordian tube for operation every 3 or 4 weeks" problem that I have decided is just easiest to live with (good to know which code it will throw).

3,4, and 5 - I will look but might this be related to my headlight switch/turn signal stalk (which I need to replace anyways because crusise control and tail-light operation is off).

Thanks!

1) The Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) supports two systems .... your Active Handling system and your Magnasteer system. There have been people who have reported unexpected brake applications while driving (causing the car to veer suddenly from a straight line) because the SWPS reported incorrect data. If the SWPS fails completely your steering effort will feel heavier at low speeds, and too light at high speeds.

2) A few minutes with some electrical tape would be a good idea .... the wiring to the doors includes a wire that is part of the computer network in the car. When that line starts having a problem it can (and does) affect every computer in the car. There are people who could not start the car because of the data line to the DCM shorting out. You should look into fixing this before it disables your car.

3) The ste4ering column switch probably has nothing to do with the Uxxxx messages. Uxxx messages are issued when a computer on the network is either not responding to messages from other computers, or is not sending SOH (State of Health) messages when it should. Often these Uxxxx messages are posted when the network gets very busy, so usually they can be ignored, but they will appear if a computer has failed .... so you need to look into whether you have a failed computer on the network if these messages are consistently being posted.
