Default What X-Pipe will fit?

I am in the market of removing my current mid pipe on my 2000 C5 and would like to remove the pipe starting at the exhaust manifold and going back eliminating the cats completely with an X-Pipe. Does anyone know of one that will bolt onto the manifold?

An x-pipe is usually part of a header package. All headers and the stock manifold are different, and have different requirements for an x-pipe. A manufactures x-pipe will usually only really fit their headers. I don't think I've seen one made for the stock manifold. The main reason, there is no performance gain from an x-pipe. And not any to speak of from removing the cats. And, most do not want to spend the $$ to gain nothing... so no real market.

What are you trying to gain? Nothing really to be gained from an x-pipe and cat removal. If you want sound, then get a catback system. If you want power, save the money for headers or if your in CA for a different mod...

Maybe I wasn't clear I want to replace my whole mid pipe from exhaust manifold to my Corsa mufflers in the back. I am want to replace my cats and H-Pipe with just straight pipes and an off-road X-Pipe. This will allow exhaust to flow more smoothly and sound a little better. So let me as again is there a X-pipe that will replace my current mid pipe and just bolt in place of it?

Hey MattB

I will have to disagree with you. There are gains to be made from removing cats and the use of an x-pipe.

you can accomplish what you want with a bassani xpipe, or corsa x-pipe to replace the mide pipe / H-pipe.

you would want to use straight pipes to delete the cats along with 02 simulators if you can locate them.

If you want an xpipe to be used at the cats then look in summit or thunder racing etc and find a welder that will remove your cats and fabricate something for you.

There will be no simple bolt on to do this.

Disagree if you want, but I don't think the facts are on your side. A lot of guys are deadset against them because they see emissions equipment as a big hinderance to performance. While that may have been the case 'back in the day' IMO its not really much of an impact any more. Maybe 3-5hp on a good day and thats not worth the trouble IMO. IMO better to save the money for a REAL performace mod.

Lol Ok Matt

You argue with the idea that you cant get any performance gains by removing cats or using an x-pipe.

The rest of the world knows 1 hp gain is a gain. Faster the exhaust gets out the better performance you will have.

If it is worth the smell is another story.

1hp a gain... theoretically yes, but practically not worth it. Dude you get more than that much change during the day as the air temp changes. A dyno couldn't even reliably measure the difference cat removal makes. A x-pipe may help with sound, but thats it and its a maybe that the buyer will like the sound. It’s a lot more complicated than “the faster it gets out the better”, some header systems are better in lower rpms and some are better in the high rpms, some better for bigger cube engines. And they are systems, not just parts slapped together. Do some searches here on exhaust savaging and get a clue and stop handing out bad advice. An x-pipe does nothing for a stock exhaust manifold period. If you do some research you will find that out, or you could do it and be disappointed.

The point is kind of not worth arguing though, as you pointed out there is not an x-pipe made that will do what the OP wants, i.e. bolt on. So, I guess me and the rest of the world agree that its not worth it. Otherwise, there would be some on the market, ya think? However, I do think it is a little worth arguing if it keeps a forum member from wasting their money.

I completely agree with the smell comment on the cats though, one word. Bad.

Like I've said, the money is better spent elsewhere or saved for a solution that does work. Like a good tune, which can net a whole lot more than 3-5hp. Or, since the OP has a 2000 Vette, an LS6 intake is a pretty good investment. May or may not be inline with their ultimate goals, but a whole lot better than an X-pipe and cat removal, IMO it is not worth the money and effort

But, like I said earlier. If you want to waste your time and money then go a head and do what you think is right. After that, if you want you can re-do it and get some real increase in performance.

There is no x-pipe that I know of that goes from the exhaust manifold back. Corsa or Bassani are behind the cats. What you want is one of these x-pipes and then find a muffler shop that will fab up what you want.

The removal of the cats and putting on a after market X pipe will only be beneficial if the engine is heavily modified, this will allow the exhaust to flow freely thus maximizing the performance (HP & TQ) that can be produced. A free flowing exhause even with headers on a stock engine will do very little in relationship to performance. If your just looking for the sound - buy the B&B bullets (cat backs).

Have you ever dyno'd your car with out cats on it?

I have seen guys that use electronic exhaust cut outs after the cats and gain 20hp on the dyno.

The faster you can pump in air and exit exhaust the more power you will make. Everyone knows this of course.

I was 2 tenths faster in the 1/4 mile with the addition of an x-pipe. So i am only sharing my real world experience.

More than likely you got faster because you got better at driving, which is great. Good job.

If the x pipe did it on a stock exhaust manifold then there would be several on the market, there are none.

Electric cut outs have their place, but after the cats does nothing for you argument. 20hp is a little much, kind of doubt that others have seen that much on a stock engine, on a high hp engine with LT headers it is likely.

Mostly going by the majority of opinions here, would not waste my money and time on some thing with so little return. I have LG LTs with high flow cats and x-pipe, got it as a whole system. Works great because its a whole system. Not a uninformed hack on a stock system.

Do your self a favor and do some research and find out whats really worth the time and money. "The faster it gets out" theory is old school, you could be leaving HP on the table with out knowing what you are doing. It can work on very highly modified race cars, but through stock manifolds and even with other bolt ons it does not do what you think.

I would think that getting rid of some back pressure would give a measurable difference in performance. The LSX motors like to breath.

Just get the Bassani X-pipe that's made for removing the cats, it bolts right up to the stock manifold and knocks out two birds with one stone, then I'd just leave the stock H-pipe in the rear in place since it doesn't so much anyway.

Removing the cats and adding that X-pipe up there WILL show gains regardless of what the tree huggers claim.

Wow ok you are one of those know it alls i guess.

Headers systems with cat deletes will make more power. You need to brush up on you research skills I would say. There is nothing "old school" about the faster you get air in and out the more power you will have. It is real world facts. You choke your air intake and find out what happens ok?

Obviously you don't know your *** from a hole in the ground. The Bassani X pipe is a bolt on after the cats - it replaces the H pipe. If you read my sig - I run a Bassani X pipe with straight custom pipes running from my SLP tuned headers. So you run a X pipe and a H pipe ?? I know a lot of bench racers - unfortunately your not even to that level yet!!
