If I install the CLB myself, can I just reset the DIC message, and will it stay off ? The column never locked on me , I just got low voltage and the message appeared. Any help is appreciated. I did scroll through the sticky but could not find my answer there.
I had same scenario until I accidentally drained the battery again(forget to unplug the Sirus for a week). The message went away and has stayed away since Feb, 08.
My column lock actuator lasted about 1500 actuations before dying, forcing me to have my car flatbedded to the dealership. Don't wait for this to happen to you. If you hear the bzzzzt every time you turn the ignition switch on or off, you need the bypass or the dealership block-off plate. Don't wait too much longer.
The whole column lock thing is confusing, frustrating and can be expensive.
If I understand your post correctly the column lock message keeps coming back but the column is not locked and the car is driveable (2mph fuel shutoff is not biting you). If that is correct, I would try pulling fuse #25 for 10 minutes. Fuse is in the fuse panel in the passenger foot well under the carpet. This should cause the BCM to forget everything and start over. Then clear any codes on the DIC.
If your battery is low, you need to get it fully charged as the BCM can/does loose communication to the many sensors it relys on to make its decisions when voltage is low. If the battery won't stay charged, either replace it or find out what is draining it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks 8VETTE7 for your reply I will try that this evening.
