What's up fellas! I've got a problem in the form of an 1/8" crack along the back of the intake manifold. Eventually, I'm going to pick up a new one, but I'd rather the car not be down until then. I need a temporary fix.
I tried JB Weld, but a little bit of gas got on it, and basically ate it off - it just chipped off. I need something that's:
1. petroleum resistant
2. readily available (would like to fix tomorrow)
Would some sort of gas tank epoxy work? Anything else? Please let me know what the product is and where I can find it!
Gas tank epoxy might work but test it in an area that won't hurt the intake first. Most use the JB Weld. Also, if the crack looks like it may run take a small drill and drill the ends of the crack to arrest its growth.
The secret is to prep the surface correctly. Its usually coated in oil so clean it with degreaser then alcohol. DEVCON makes a killer plastic epoxy! I purchased it at the local Walmart. Its a two part epoxy that STINKS like mad but works excellent. Make sure that you rough the surface up well with 60 grit and loke VETTNUTS recommended, drill stop the crack so ti doesnt get bigger (it will)
Without a picture to see exactly what the crack looks like, I'm assuming it's 1/8" long and not very wide. If that's the case why not try some Permatex. Either Ultra Copper or Ultra Black should do it. But you have to wait 24hrs for it to cure.
