Default Help tonight PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday my husband had problems starting our 00 but he got it started, Today I went out to pick up my daughter & nothing (it sounded like a gun going off )

When my husband got home he started messing with it & we had everything but the car starting, We thought it might have been the battery so we changed it. NO we have NOTHING, so we changed the battery back, & still NOTHING, teh Securty light comes on & flashes but no HUD or anything but the ecs & the radio.

HELP before my hsuband decides to throw the car off a cliff, this car has been nothing but trouble since we got it almost 2yrs ago.

We love the car but its a problem.

Do you have anything on the DIC? If so, you can scan the codes from the computers to see what is happening. Let us know what you find out.

Ok just talked to my husband & He sort of explained.

No the DIC doesnt show anything it is black except for when we turn on the lights & then if we are lucky it shows the Odom reading, but we cant push anything it doesnt respond.

Sometimes we get the Take key out & wait 10secs but thats only happen 2 times. & we have done that but then nothing.

He thinks it could be the vats system (& yes I know what the VATS are lol I have Camaros, with that in them) which means a trip to the steatlership, which also means a tow.

What I highlighted is the column lock issue. Check out the CL sticky thread at the top of the page.

The column lock was done earlier this year, By a local dealership, could they have not done it right?
I think they just repogramed the computer.

Back to the dealership to have them correct it then install a column lock bypass (CLB). If you didn't check out the thread I mentioned in the earlier reply you really should, it's a great doc.

Well if it is the cl & the other dealership flipped it up, then our main dealership will force them to pay for it. The dealership (local) one we deal with is great to work with & knows me quite well.

But As I said I will have MY husband call you tomorrow or tuesday at the lastest (he works graves so sleeps during the day)

I had something like this happen once... I would put the key in the ignition and turn it: Nothing. No 'click click' of the starter solenoid, nothing.

Turns out, the 'pill' on the key was dirty and needed to be cleaned. I just used a pencil eraser on both sides, wiped it on my jeans, and was on my way. I was freaked out for sure... but it was a simple/easy fix.

You might also have an issue with the ignition switch assembly. While doing some stereo work I found an 'extra' inside my dash. Must have been from the previous owner having it replaced?!?!

Good luck with the car.

Mark

typical issue on 2000 models i have come accross, its the ignition security , either your sec code reading has been corupted or the ign switch(common) is bad and needs changing then the comp needs to be re flashed and learned. one first thing to try is spray some contact cleaner, used on computers, into the ign lock to clean contacts, if it does not work then the ign is shot.

Nothing against anyone here but it is my husbands baby.

My husband went out last night & worked on the car again & saw a very dimm alt light & seat belt light , then today he went back out & checked all the grounds, Cleaned the keys & still nothing. he even checked fuses still nothing.

So with his current work set up, (which I didnt know until this morning) he decided it was time to call the dealership, This car has been to this dealership a couple times So they know the car. Plus they have one of the best Local Vette techs at the shop.

I called the dealership & they stayed after hours to expect the car, then I called the tow truck (owned by my sister in law lol) & told her what was going on. She shipped her best Driver out & Then I called my insurance agent (i did call him earlier in the day to see if they would cover us hauling the car from home to the dealership & they would.) even better is since they work with the tow company & they are covered under the same agent as us, No money came out of our pocket for the tow.

So we get the car to the dealership & since its after hours they promised to get the vette in the shop ASAP (push it in for the night) & look at it first thing in the morning. Told the tech what was going on & he said most likely the damn computer again, I guess there has been 4 or 5 other vettes that have been doing the same thing, that they had to replace the computer. If so It may be under a protection from when we had it done in the past.

So I will give you guys an update on what they find tomorrow, when they call.

"he said most likely the damn computer again" There are 13-14 computers in the C5............ It could also be the flux capacitor or halogen fluid level. Good luck at the dealer.

IF you are getting the pull Key message AND the security light flashes, it COULD be the key. First try cleaning it with alcohol. If this doesn't work try another key (yes, they do go bad). This MAY solve it, and it is easy to do.

Good Luck !

Other than this, Bill Curlee will get you going.

We have NOTHING ,,,is an indication of a BAD battery or a loose or bad battery cable issue. 10:1 odds your battery terminals are too loose. Your POSITIVE battery cable goes to THREE different places:

B+ terminal on the Under Hood Fuse Center & from there a wire runs down to the B+ terminal on the Passengers Foot Well Fuse Center.

Passengers foot well fuse box:

The Positive Battery cable also goes splits and goes to the starter.

You cant troubleshoot a power problem without taking into consideration the NEGATIVE battery cable. The NEG battery cable goes to TWO places:

- The engine block on the passengers side below the head between cylinders 6 & 8

- The frame next to the battery to Chassis ground G-104/108

If you have NO power,,,,either the battery is bad OR the battery cables are LOOSE/not tightened properly.

The battery cables on 97-03 C5s needs to be torqued to 11 ft/lbs to properly connect to the battery.

This completely DEAD issue CANT be caused by a COMPUTER.

Now,,,,if your telling me all the correct indications about being completely DEAD (sometimes people focus on only part of the indications) it could also be an Ignition Switch issue. If your ignition switch (The electrical portion of the switch)fails, it will cause the car to NOT start and the switched 12 VDC will not be connected to the vital components of the car. Your description of VERY DIM indications leads me to believe that could also be an issue.

I have a VERY INFORMATIVE post on this very subject that I wrote a while ago:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...gnition+switch

So,,,we will see what the dealership tells you. I hope you get the correct service and not taken for a ride!

Remember,,,,,,, "he said most likely the damn computer again"
