Default Help with Outside Air Temp

OK, so a month ago I noticed my exterior temp reading was reading 72 degrees all the time and it was more like 85 degrees outside. I went to the dealer and purchased a new outside air temp sensor for $10. Installed it and low and behold everything worked fine, temp reading was good etc. And has been reading fine for the past month.

Fast foward to today, pulled the vette out of the garage and my exteriort temp read 68 degree, it is about 88 degrees out. Drove he car for about an hour and no change still read 68 degrees.

I pulled the sensor checked the wiring harness all appears OK.

Any suggestions.

Thanks
Mike

Could it be corrosion at the connector? Maybe clean up the contacts at the connector?

According the the 2K Service Manual the external temp reading will default to 56F if a short or open circuit is detected, so your 68F reading is not default but likely related to a problem with your circuit. Corrosion is a common issue that could be bridging the contacts so check the contacts inside the connector.

It is on the lower radiator support passenger side. I had to replace mine so I went to a parts site to see what it looked like.

Here's a diagram and a pic someone posted earlier. It may help you to find it.

You can try taking the sensor out and seeing if the temp reading is the same. That way you can tell if the sensor is reading the wrong temp, or if there is an open connection between the computer and the sensor.

Where does the outside temp sensor wire harness go to? In other words, where else should be checked for corrosion/plug problems? And if you disconnect the sensor, should the temp auto default immediately, or do you have to disconnect the battery first? I've tried to disconnect the sensor, but the temp remains the same (around 40 degrees, even though it was in the mid 60's at the time).
