HUD experts: Question for ya
Ok, next on my list is getting the HUD back to working. The HUD does work, but whatever happens when you press the 'page up/down' button is apparently broken. If I lean COMPLETELY up to the steering wheel, I can see the HUD display clear as day and when I hit the page up/down button, I see the display move slightly to the sides as if its slipped off of a gear or something is broken that won't let it adjust properly. Will this involve taking the HUD apart to fix, or is it something that the HUD sits in (like a outer bracket or something?)

After searching the forum like crazy, it seems it might be the pivot pin.(which I'm guessing is inside the HUD) Does anyone have a pic of this item or how to fix/replace it?

pulling the dash off is easy after 3,4 or 10 times; the HUD is held together 4 screws, pretty basic stuff
I do NOT have experience in fixing the pivot pin, I DO have experience in installing HUD and replacing the projectors
if your in CT I can help, this stuff is actually fun for some people
I'm pretty sure its gonna be the pivot pin from what I've researched. I don't mind pulling the dash as I've done that before, but I'm not sure about where this 'pivot pin' is located. Even once I find it, I don't know if its a part you can order through GM or if its just part of the HUD assembly Thanks for the help! I'm in Mobile, Al. though
Just in case there's a misunderstanding, the "page" button doesn't move the hud. It pages through the display options. The up and down arrows move the display up and down. If that's what you meant, disregard. There a been a couple of posts recently where the mounting bracket broke or came loose and the hud dropped down too low to adjust. Post if you find out what happened to yours.

Here are some pics of a HUD unit out of a 2005. I haven't had a C5 unit apart, so I'm not sure of the differences, but they should be fairly similar. Hopefully it gives you an idea of what to look for. I doubt you can buy the pieces separately, so you will probably have to be innovative.
The adjustable reflector is just a shiny piece of plastic.
This pin is part of the mount for the pivot motor, but it is removable.
This is true for now. I have had one on back order for two months at local stealership. They can't tell me if I will ever get one.
However, I live just outside of Birmingham and know how to fix your HUD. I just did it to mine. And YES!! you have to be a little innovative to pull this off.
The part that is broken is not available as far as I can find. The part that is broken can be fixed with a little know how. I am a police officer but own an electronics shop also, and we are always having to manufacture, rebuild or modify some piece to work.
In one of those recent threads, I read where the OP tried to glue the broken pivot pin back on. It worked for a little while, but did not last. He then mounted a screw to act as the pivot pin, which worked for him. Don't have any more details, sorry. But I certainly would not just try to glue it back on. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Your right Bell. Glue is not an option here. Screw?? OK, but not very smooth. Pin?? Yes!! it is smooth and works great!!!!! You just need to make sure you mount it correctly and align the gear right.
Will work just like new if done right.
New HUDs are available. Call or e-mail Shaun at smcperformance.com. He buys tractor trailer loads of excess parts straight from the Bowling Green plant at the end of each production run. All he sells is C5, C6, and XLR parts.
