Default death by corvette squishing

Tried to get under my vette the other day. To do so I set all four tires on landscaping bricks.

As I let the jack down for the last brick it slipped out of gear. Then proceeded to roll off the bricks and put the jack through the bottom of the car

Luckily it only got a little plastic part with the jack. The part that broke is the little plastic filler piece that fits the hole in the front quater pannel (kinda looks like an air dam). It also appears to function as a structural piece for the quarter panel / wheel as well.

If you know what I'm talking about do you know where I can get one?

Thanks!

If you don't have any junkyards nearby try Gene Culley at GM Partshouse. He's a Forum member, so do a search under his name to find him and send him a PM.

Be glad that you weren't underneath it at the time! The proper jacks and safety measures should not be underestimated even if you are in a hurry. Set the emegency brake and chock both front and rear wheels properly. I am really careful now since I once had a close call!

Yeah it scared me to death. Afterwards I went all out and built a ramp the length of the car. You can pull up on it and off of it to get the car level and up a good 6" off the ground. It has pleanty of clearance should the car roll off it will still clear me underneath. Only cost me $35 at the lumber store and well worth every cent.

Thanks!

Wow, that sucks. Bet the price of four jackstands seems inexpensive now......

And concrete blocks or bricks are never very safe. They can crumble at any time.

Cinder blocks will crumble but concrete blocks are not known for crumbling.

I would question that....If you hit them with force or a sharp impact most likely they would crumble. But, if you're just carefully setting the front or rear wheels on them to reach the oil drain plug, or something like that, I highly doubt they'd suddenly crumble, any more that a properly set jackstand would just fall.

Ya, getting under the vette scares the hell out of me, and ive done a clutch a transmission and long tube headers...i use plenty of jack stands and take off the tires and lay them down underneath so if something happened at least ill have a chance...

never really was concerned about getting under a car before but the vette is so low its definately gonna crush ya if something goes wrong

That's what I've got.

Just don't drive over the end of the ramp like me.

I was never really concerned about crawling under any of my other cars in the past but the Vette is soooooo low that anyone would definitely be crushed. I will have to see what those Rhino ramps are all about. I need something because I am getting ready to do the LT header install and know you need to get the car pretty high off the ground.
