Default How long the Random Tech Cats last??

I put an LG pro system in my car a little over a year ago. I ran the car without the cats for a couple of months and it smelled horrible.

I got the new cats from LG since the ones that came with the system were already shot. Its probably about one year and the smell has come back. i am wondering the cats are no longer working.......

How long these cats last? or could it be something else??

Thanks in advance

I just put on my 3Rd set in a little over 3 years. I have LG/LT pro series with random tech cats. I've put on less than 10,000 miles in last 3 years, and the only time the car was run hard was 4 runs on dyno.

You guys are crazy replacing cats on a once a year average basis ..... the EPA requires an 80,000 mile/8 year warranty on the cats from the OEM .... so cats failing in a year .......

I'd look for another maker, or put the OEM cats on .... one year sounds like a POS product.

I would say to hell with emmissions and go to an "off road X-pipe" if my cats failed within a year. That is totally unaccepatble in regard to quality.

about 25000 miles on one cat and 5000 on the other.
I had the one replaced due to the center becoming elongated not burnt.
(LG pro headers and random cats)

Thanks for all the feedback. I have sent an email to LG and they are looking into it. I will keep you guys posted.

My car has started smelling like when I didn't have any cats. I rather not have that smell. I guess the cats are not doing their job. Besides I am afraid they will fail the smog.

If you are talking about LG Pro Long Tubes and CA smog, you've already failed, cats or not, unless you have a shop who will look the other way on the visual inspection.

Disclaimer- While I live in MS, my brother and father live in San Diego, so I'm familiar with the smog BS out there.

I installed my Random Tech Cats on my 02 Z with 27K on the clock. The only mods were:

Stainless Works headers 3" cat back exhaust system with Random Tech Cats
Vararam
178 deg stat
Tune

At 55K I modded to the following up-grades:

Patroit stage II heads, Whiplash cam, ported Fast90/90TB 40 lb/hr injectors,

Still have the same CATS at 58k..

They are still in excellent condition and work fine.

If your cats are failing quickly,,,it seems like it could be TUNE related.

FDXPilot: Yes you are absolutely right about the visual. It will never pass. But I found someone who didn't care as long as I met the numbers and passed the smog after getting a tune.

My problem now is more of the smell coming from the car exhaust like it used to when I didn't have any cats and just the straight pipes......

I dont have cats and the smell really started to increase. I thought thats just the price I have to pay for running no cats. Turns out I had an exhaust leak at the H pipe

I totally agree. I ran the off road pipe with my LG Pro Lts and I couldn't stand smelling like gas. My clothes reaked of it after every drive with the windows down or the top off. The sound and performance difference is so small that I'd rather keep the cats on. Oh yeah, try cleaning your exhaust tips after running with no cats!! You need to start with a dremel

Not sure why you're having the problem. I have had LG Pros w/cats on mine for almost 4 years, and it doesn't smell yet. I successfully passed a sniffer test in TN the first two years. I did, however, tell LG when they installed the headers and tuned it, that I needed to pass smog and they may have changed the tune a bit from their normal parameters

hmmm....It looks like I might have to call my tuner and pay him a visit.

Thanks for all the feedback.

What in the tune could do this?
