That's the biggest issue overall I think. That's one of the reasons I chose to go with a Darton sleeved 427 LS2 block with good stuff inside. The rest of the LS7 stuff just bolts right on.
LoneStarFRC - It sounds like it'd be a lot less expensive and less hassle to build a sleeved motor than using an LS7 and you'd have lot more power. Scoggin Dickey had a L92 427 motor they built, It was part of their El Toro Grande series, for about $8,000 and it had a well over 600 HP at the flywheel. Now you've got me thinking again.

That's what I did. It's a Darton sleeved LS2 block with 4" stroke and 4.125" bore. My heads and intake w/injectors are LS7. I LIKE those big beer-can sized intakes. I also chose to use Comp springs w/TI retainers and stainless valves from Rev instead of the uber priced Titanium pieces. Even my old LS1 oil pan bolted right up.
The only other matter that no one has mentioned so far that I can think of is in the area of the headers. Regardless of block choice, etc, the LS7 heads have "D" ports on the exhaust side and so I had to specify my Kooks headers to come with an LS7 compatible exhaust flanges. You'll just need to specify year, AND transmission for your C5 and then of course ask for an LS7 flange.
It cost me about $100 extra, but they bolted right up and seal perfectly with no issues.
I just had an LS7 block 427 built. We used a callies crank with the 24x ring and an ls1 style snout so we could use an ls1-2 wet sump pump and my old ballancer and pan. You do not have to use the LS7 dry sump although I will probably go aftermarket dry sump in the future
