[6-Speed] Will it shift into reverse while driving?
I drove my first C5 6-speed tonight, and noticed that it could be easy to accidentally shift into reverse instead of 5th. On my old C4 you had to lift up on the shifter in order to get into reverse, the C5 didn't seem to have anything to prevent this.
Is there something that prevents the car from going into reverse while driving? Also how do you guys drive your 6-speeds, do you normally upshift through each gear or skip some? ... seems like the gear ratios are fairly close between gears.

There is a reverse lock out that should engage whenever you are traveling faster than ~3 mph.
Normally I shift to every other gear 1-3-5-6 or 2-4-6. Depends on where I am and what I am doing...
No worries about going into reverse. There is a lockout that stops it from shifting into reverse. On my car if it is ever creeping so slowly forward it wont let me shift into reverse. Car has to be completely stopped.
As for the shifting question. Around town I shift it 1-3-5. Lots of low end torque in these motors so it does it w/o any trouble.
Enjoy

There is a reverse lockout but I swear that mine lets me into reverse at a high rpm shift to 5th if I am not careful. I dont know if anyone else has this issue though.

mine will slip into the reverse gate from time to time.

Once, makes a hell of a grinding noise. Happened right after I bought it, wasn't used to 6 gears yet, always had 5 spd's. Haven't done it since.
After I had my rear end out. I somehow forgot to reconnect the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) it is at the top of the Differential. Speedo always read "0" and I didn't have time to fix it at the time, drove about a week with it that way (didn't realize it until I was driving away and the Auto Hobby shop here on post was closing). I just had to make sure I was really careful when I shifted into 5th. I sometimes just skipped it and went to sixth just to be safe. My wife who was following me one day, said it was weird to see the Reverse lights illuminate while driving 60mph (I hit the gate, but didn't shift into reverse... Lucky me).
