This is the securty code for a fauly signal from the key chip, I get it about once a week on my DD 01 coupe. No real issues yet but I think this is a sign of bad things to come.....ignition going out? Advice please
I'd start by cleaning your key. Take a pencil and use the eraser to burnish the contacts for the resistor on both sides of the chip. Then use alcohol or electrical contact cleaner to finish cleaning the key.
Next, if you have a second key, clean that key and use it for a few days to ensure that it works correctly. If you don't have a second key, you should get one. Your Chevy dealer, and many locksmiths, can make a second key based on your first one. A second key is good insurance if the first one fails or is lost.
Finally, if the problem continues after cleaning the keys, replacement of the lock cylinder will be in your future (or you can contemplate a VATS bypass ... but that creates a greater risk of vehicle theft). The question becomes when to "fix" the problem. Do you wait for the problem to get worse, or fix it before iy disables the car.
