Default Clutch/Trans Grinding

Sorry for the post as I know this has been covered plenty.

I have been hearing a grinding(metal on metal) when the clutch is about 3/4 the way off the ground when putting in gear.

The grinding doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it is terrible. I have stopped driving the car until i can resolve this issue.

From what I have read on the forum, this is a pretty common issue on C5s. My question is what exactly do i need to replace.

Right now I plan on ordering the following:

Spec stage 1 clutch
New Master
New slave
Pilot bearing

Should I also be replacing the flywheel? Is there anything that I am missing?

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Depends on what condition its in. If it has heat marks and small heat cracks, either resurface the OEM disc or replace it.

It's pretty hard to diagnose things like that over the internet.

Where are you located?

Are you sure it is the clutch and not the transmission? Another common problem is bad sychros.

Not really sure which one it is.

I would think its the clutch. The grinding happens in gears 1-4. It does not grind all the time.

We changed the clutch fluid and the grinding stopped until it got black again.

I'm going to bleed the fluid tonight(Ranger Method) and see if i can get the grinding to stop again temporarily.

So I did the Ranger Method. Tons of fluid was black. Had to do it about 7 times till I could get it to stay clear.

Anyway took the car out for about a 20 mile drive. Did as much stop and go driving as possible. I could only get it to grind when the car was going up a hill from a stop.(At least 99% of the time)

It grinded way less. When I got back home the fluid was then black.

Can someone explain to me what I need to do/buy to fix this. Could if be a shifter alignment. I was thinking about checking that next.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Did you ever figure out what it was? I am having the same issues with my car and thinking it's the clutch master cylinder. I am only experiencing this with 1st gear though. The grinding doesn't happen all the time.
