I just bought a 98 Corvette a few months ago. It has bigger cross drilled rotors on the front and just the stock rotors on the back. When you are coming to a stop the front brakes feel like they grab and release. It does'nt shake or squeel. Just grabs and releases. I took it to the Chevrolet house to have different wheels put on and he said I needed a front brake job. But I was wondering if the rotors just might need turned. Any help would definitely be appreciated. Thanks

So you took the car to a qualified mechanic to diagnose the problem, which they did, and suggested a corrective action. Is it the mechanics feeling that it will fix your problem? Do you not trust the dealership?
By grabs and releases, are you suggesting that the brakes do not remain applied when braking, and the car does not slow down or coasts?
I took the car for wheels to be swapped over, not for the brakes he was saying it could be the pads or the rotors. I was just wondering if anyone else encountered this problem. But the brakes do hold all the way until stopped. Thanks Again

How do you know the person is a mechanic let alone a qualified one? There are a lot of shady shops around. The guy is trying to get some info to be an informed consumer, he deserves help.
If you can please post up what kind of brakes they are, the caliper should give an indication if the seller did not tell you what kind of brakes they are. Also, expand a little on what your experiencing. Is it pulsation of the brakes? Or a quick initial bite and then a little less brake effectiveness after that? Has it always done it, or is it a new behavior? It could be normal or a minor issue that can be fixed pretty easy. But, give some more info and see if someone can give you some info on what maybe going on.

Since the OP stated he took his car to the "Chevrolet House", I took that as the dealership. Obviously, the individual working on his car noticed he needed a brake job, be he a qualified mechanic or not. And guess what MattB, it just so happens he's having brake problems.
What a coincidence, huh?
Either you are just an extraordinary wrench, or you have one of those new Snap On crystal *****, to completely diagnose a braking problem without seeing/driving the vehicle.

Wow, guy, grow up. This is a board to share information, not a place to belittle people for self gratification. Save the name calling for some place else. Its getting really old. Continue and I will bring this up with the moderators.
Of course I have no idea of what is going on with the OP, which is why I asked for more information and tried to give him some frame of reference. Not everyone on the board has a lot of experience or knows the local jargon, so its not easy for them to searchs. Been there myself, its a PIA.
Lets see what the OP has to say, maybe he does have a major issue, May be a less than honest shop is trying to get money out of him because he is uninformed, but we won't know until he responds.

Wow, besides lucky131969 acting like he got up on the wrong side of the rock this morning, so is everyone else.
OK, some concrete advice here.
1. Do you know how many miles (and what kind of miles) are on the car -- specifically, the brakes? Cross drilled rotors mean an after market setup on your '98.
2. Have you physically looked at the calipers to determine how far down your brke pads are?
3. Are you getting any codes?
4. Have you taken the car out and tried to "bed" the brakes? Read these two links completely, and see if you can try that first:
Thanks for all the help. I got it figured out. It was the rotors, not the pads. So I am going to replace the rotors. Thanks again for the info, it saved me from replacing the pads instead of the rotors.
