Default header question

I have GHL cat back on my '04 now and was wondering if the addition of headers with cats would increase the sound volume significantly or is most of the sound already in the system with the cat back system?

It did get louder when I added hi flow cats and LG pros. Pretty much anything you do to increase exhaust flow is going to make the car louder. But exhaust sounds are more tolerable to some than others. I like what I have now but when you hammer it the exhaust is Nascar loud. Corsa Indys by the way.

So there's no such thing as 'less loud' headers? I don't want to give up my quiet exhaust sound (Magnaflow & X). I did the header thing on my Z28 but now I'm interested in quieter power. No hijack intended.

No quiet headers that I know of. If you want to keep it quiet you can go with LTs, high flows, and z06 Tis. It will be pretty quiet when you keep the RPMs low. Regular driving and cruising you will hear your valvetrain over your exhaust It will get pretty loud if you get on it though.

Sound level will increase a little driving normal and will get alot louder when you hammer it.You wii also get a nice increase in HP.

Yeah, I'm also not interested in hearing my valvetrain. Been there, did that.

I put on Cosa exhaust and only ran with that for awhile. A few months later I added a Corsa X pipe and Bassani Headers. Normal driving, the sound is pretty much the same, but WOT the sound opens up quite a bit..It sounds awesome!

Interesting selection- Bassani. I ran those on my Z28. Very high quality. I was actually looking at those for my C5. Did you make this selection base on the fact that you can hook up to your stock cats? I imagine running through the stock cats helps reduce decibel level a bit.

You could go with the stock Z06 Ti catback with the headers. A lot find it a good combo. Sell the GHLs on the forum.

Personally I did a corsa cat back, then got the headers. It was louder, but also a tinny loud that kind of grated on my ears. When I got some ported heads it sounded a lot better, less tinny and deeper. But, I went back to a Z06 catback after a cam install.
