The engine on my 2001 coupe makes a whistling noise at about 2800 rpm when under load. I thought it was a squeak in the accelerator linkage at first, but it can be made constant by holding the RPM steady. Hard to duplicate standing still, and I don't have access to a dyno. I have seen threads about the intake systems on modified vehicles, but mine's stock. Any ideas? I can take it to the dealership, but I ran a garage for years and would rather fix it myself if it's feasible.
My engine started whistling just like yours once I installed the LS6 intake. :( That was not what I had expected from a HP Mod. :nonod: I bet it is your intake on your car. :yesnod:
Whats going to happen when I install the Coil Overs?? Should I expect to hear "Bud"-"Wies"-"er" from the F-ing Budweiser Frogs? :conehead
The whistle is a known issue with the newly designed (for 2001) intake manifold. It is due to an unused (used for EGR in the F-body version) cavity molded into the intake manifold, where it bolts to the throttle body. At part throttle, a resonance (whistle) is created. Some people have fixed this "problem" by filling this cavity with epoxy.

I believe that for 2002 GM addressed the problem. I would check with your dealer or Fitchner Chevrolet to find out for sure. If they have, you should be able to get your manifold switched to the 2002 version under warrantee.
Thanks for the help. I'll contact our local dealer and see what can be done - need to balance the whistling against what can happen once the dealer tears into it....
I took the coupe to the dealer (O'Reilly Chevrolet in Tucson). The service manager heard the noise and said "yeah, the throttle plate is whstling a little bit. There are no ETB's out on this, so I can't do anything about it." The service manager, who has been a pretty good guy in the past, said that he would check with the regional service rep, but I think I'll end up taking this somewhere else. Before I do, is there any documentation from GM on this problem that I can refer to?
