the contacts on the fob can get dirty or worn down. take apart the fob and clean it.
I gave up on my fobs long ago. They need full replacement. Batteries and programming do not do it.
I have the conspiracy theory that after x amount of years the cars computer is programmed to reject the fob that was programmed to force you to buy a new one.
With or without the programming sequence (through the DIC, reset when blank etc...) -- you may have to hold lock/unlck for quite some time.
like 10-15 seconds, which seems like an eternity.
I just swapped out the batteries in both of mine (FOB's). 10-15 seconds would have been nice; I stood there for 4+ minutes holding the buttons and finally got both of them synched up.
I just had a similar problem, remote failed, replaced battery still wouldn't work, brought a non passive remote after advise from this forum, dosn't work, pulled the codes as you need to do, I have the service manuals so I went through the check procedures, does your dash mounted trunk release work yes/no, mine was working sometimes only, borrowed one, non passive still didn't work, brought a correct year passive, bingo all works perfect.
What do you mean by "PASSIVE" and how it did effect your existing FOB
there is a switch on the fob that activates "passive" locking/unlocking. when you get near the car it unlocks and locks when you move away. cool at first but very annoying if your car is in the garage and you keep walking past it! way uncool then!
Hello, taking a long shot that anyone will see this 14 years later. I'm currently having the same issue with the fobs for my 98. Did you ever find the solution?
