Depends on what your goals with the engine and car are. For a quick dependable 35 plus HP with easy driveability the hot cam with the LS6 package (243 heads/10.8 compression) works great. The springs will handle the lift and therefore you do not need to go to double springs.

GM has done a very good job with some of the crate and cam packages for driveabilty, dependability and horsepower. Once you start to want to get too much above the 500 engine horsepower range you need to think about aftermarket equipment. There are a lot of great vendors with some very neat packages on the forum.

I personally would not do the hot cam. There are PLENTY of other cams on the market that will make more power and run smoother. Pm me if you need advice on some.

I ran the hotcam in my LS1 Camaro. It was not emission friendly but its relatively low lift meant it was easy on my valves.

The peak power was also lower than a lot of the cams out there, so you didn't have to spin it to 7,000.

Peak I think was around 6000 rpm so you would shift at 6,500 rpm for max acceleration. It also sounded very good at idle.

Its not a bad cam, but like others have said, the market offers different cams with more power and better emissions.

Lots of cams out there

LS-1 2001+ 198/208 500/500 116
LS-6 207/217 525/525 116
Gen3 Hot cam 219/228 525/525 112
LS2 204/211 525/525 116
GMPP ASA 226/236 525/525 110

ask yourself, what do you want your car to do? Then find a tuner in your area and ask for their suggestions,
