Whats the easiest way to recognize if my pre-owned C5 has modded exhaust..The tips are certainly different and its loud when I stomp it..I just haven't gotten under there to look and if I did I wouldn't know what signature marks would confirm or deny any exhaust mod..I know I have a Blackwing on there and flush mounted wing from previous owner (who I never met btw) So I'm curious what else may have been done..Dealer didn't mention and I didn't ask at the time...I'm a new Vette owner so go easy please
Well the muffs are stainless(not black) but have the seams on both ends? whatdya make of that?
Paul,
Your exhaust does not sound like a stock system. As others have suggested a photo of the tips will be the best clue as to what brand system it is. The stock 2000 C5 exhaust is very tame in sound and the stock tips are painted black and kind of an oval shape.
You mentioned you purchased from a dealer. You might want to check and see if it has catalytic converters. You will need to jack it up or put it on a host to see. If it doesn't have them I would go back and talk with the dealer. I believe it is illegal for them to sell the car without them. On the other hand, if the car runs and sounds the way you like, then why bother?

Perhaps a local forum member can help you identify mods done to your car.
Ok there's what I have. I wonder if I'm just dealing with tips only b/c the muffs while not black although they look like they may have been black at one time...and the muffs do appear to have seams as mentioned by another member.

Im voting B&B Route 66 as well. My advice is to find somebody on here that lives near you or somebody nearby that knows about vettes and have them give your car a once over. If you can get it up on a lift easy things to check for are to see if you have the stock H-pipe or an aftermarket x-pipe and to see if you have aftermarket headers or the stockers. also, see if you can sit in a friends stock vette and compare the shifters to see if you have an aftermarket short throw as this would probably have been the next mod the previous owner would have done after the intake and exhaust. Best of Luck and feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any other questions about basic vette stuff.
