I'm going to do it but I've been thinking of changing the rearend anyway so if it breaks it breaks- but thanks for all of the concern.
You are TRULY showing that either 1)you have no fear, 2)you are just dumb, 3)have more money than you deserve (probably true since you claim to be a surgeon), 4)just love to destroy Vettes, or 5) are just screwing with everyone, 'cause if you wuz willing to try something this insane and stupid, you would already be dead. Worst case scenario is you put it into the retaining wall and destroy your car and possibly yourself, or into the person in the other lane (if y ou don't just shell the diff at the line), and then what would we all have to laugh at? and I reiterate, he's a SURGEON no less!! Just shows that education doesn't improve one's intelligence now does it!
Procharger and headers in a '99 FRC means, approx 425 - 440rwhp so you should be able to get down close to 11.0 with a perfect launch WITH GOOD TIRES.

Wouldn't a surgeon with $$$ just buy a set of racing slicks and wheels.....not try to run the 1 slick that they found at the landfill.....or tire shop's recycling bin?

I ordered two M/T drag radials and rims 17" from jegs but one tire is on backorder, I've been planning a race all summer ...next sunday- so no joke i'm putting it on the passenger side- if it breaks it breaks.
I say you make 1 pass with no one racing you, that way if and or when it ef's up you do not put them at risk.
I missed the surgeon part. That's F'n scary! I bet your just some jack a$$ kid with nothing better to do than ask stupid questions with a disrespectable comment like "Corvette Geeks".
First things first "Trench-coat Mafia", you would never pass tech at any track in the US in a Corvette with 1 slick on it.
Second, who in the heII even asks questions like that? Common sense tells anyone...ANYONE, that 1 slick on the back of a limited slip posi car is only going to cause one side to bite and twist the car in either direction, causing a dangerous situation for your dumb a$$ self....but more importantly the driver in the lane next to you.
Third, if your running FI and you are in the high 11's at 118 MPH, never mind the slicks, you need to learn how to drive your car first.
Do us all a favor....go buy a Rustang and troll one of their sites.
WOW what a bunch of angry alarmists!.... Hey its a 10 year old corvette not a top fuel dragster! take it easy...
and remember I just asked a simple question about posi traction - give me a break

You may be thinking of "changing the rearend anyway", but that usually means gears...not the entire housing. Also, remember that the transmission is coupled to it, and it's not uncommon for one failure to trash both components.

I drive a c-5 not a bmw
Dude, just do it. Bolt one slick on the car, and see how she runs....
In all fairness, I have been guilty of running a single slick before as well...

A surgeon, huh? Well, I've got this bottle of anaesthetic that's only got enough for half an operation. Should I use it up front, to stop the screaming and squirming during the initial incisions, or in the back half, so he's still when all the delicate work gets done? I really don't want to wait for that backordered gas to come in, cause I have to get to the track. I've got this great idea for my Corvette!!

Forget the anaesthic, just whack your patients over the head with a bottle!
I am in Dayton, so let me know when you go to the track. I have a digital video camera and will record the run for all interested. Myself I am not biting on this hoax, hey there went Big-Foot...
Maybe I will have my FRC buttoned up and I will make a few passes also, just not next to your set-up.
Any of you corvette geeks know which wheel lays the power down? is it true posi-traction or is it mostly on wheel with the other only spinning if the primary loses traction? i unfortunately only have one slick and was wondering which side to put it on.
Both front wheels, right? (LOL!!). What a great thread!
If he ran a 11.1 @ 117, he had to be hooking off the line pretty well IMO.
I run around 12.0 @ 117mph.
Just an observation.
Eddie, if this is a true question, typically it is the drivers side output shaft that breaks first, but that may be due to a weakness on that side rather than more power being routed through one side or the other consistently.
As for the mis-matched tire scenario - as someone else said, it is moot point. It would have to be a really backwater track to allow a car pass inspection like that.
