I ordered two M/T drag radials and rims 17" from jegs but one tire is on backorder, I've been planning a race all summer ...next sunday- so no joke i'm putting it on the passenger side- if it breaks it breaks.
no one really answered my question though. which wheel gets most of the power, is it truely equal or does one side only spin if the other one slips?
I was thinking passenger just because with a hard launch and the rotation of the motor cars lean to the passenger side...any productive thoughts?
That's a really bad idea. I understand you have been planning this race for a long time, but IMO it would be much better to run your race on street tires and spin, then put that one drag radial on and not make it past the 60 foot mark because you snapped an output shaft
Any of you corvette geeks know which wheel lays the power down? is it true posi-traction or is it mostly on wheel with the other only spinning if the primary loses traction? i unfortunately only have one slick and was wondering which side to put it on.
Yes its a true posi-traction..aka limited slip differential. GM calls their limit-slip implementation "posi-traction". If your thinking of a spool type differential, it is not nor do you want something like that unless you are only going in a straight line.
Wouldn't a surgeon with $$$ just buy a set of racing slicks and wheels.....not try to run the 1 slick that they found at the landfill.....or tire shop's recycling bin?
But there sure are a lot of curious idiots out there.
my favorite response so far, this whole thread has been quite entertaining.
my suggestion... try it once on each side to see which is better, that is if you car can make it down the track after one launch lol. compare your 60' times and please get it on tape
seriously tho im not buying this whole story. there are other vendors, and other slicks out there, how hard would it really be to find a set of slicks... hell i bet you could go on ebay right now and find decent used ones cheap
Sorry I haven't posted in a while guys... I've been in the hospital recovering from my injuries at the track. You guys were all soooo right. It was like the space shuttle taking off with only one rocket booster, or maybe a untied kids balloon flying aimlessly around the room.
best run 11.8 ...not my best but it really didn't matter that much it did'nt really pull to one side. I launched at about 5000rpms before I would lose traction.
I don't think i did anymore damage than the time i tried to back out of the driveway in the snow.
anyway I think it is the passenger wheel thAt gets most of the power- if you think about a real dragster if a wheelie is pulled it always leans left due to centrifical pull of the motor
