Ok folks, you've been wonderful, what'ya think about this...my remote has to be re-sync'd quite often, no battery disc's, then push both lock and unlock and it chirps after 8 sec's, and then the error message shows up to service the vehicle soon. I can reset the codes on the DIC and it'l go away till I have to re-sync the remote again. Do you think it's what's causing the error code to appear or maybe I can fix it permanently by replacing the battery in the remote ? OR...is there something causing a voltage failure in the memory system with the remote which causes no error message other than the service vehicle soon ? I've no idea how long the battery has been in the remote and plan on replacing it anyway, on a '98 coupe.
When the fobs get to be 8-9 years old or more, they start failing. Unless you've got a bad solder joint inside, the usual is just the fob dies and must be replaced. Might as well do both at the same time.
Something else that will cause a loss of sync is a weak or failing 12 VDC battery, When you crank the engine, the battery voltage will drop down to 9 VDC for a fraction of a second and the BCM will loose sync with the RFA. Then you have to resync again.
Seems like the easiest thing to do is replace the batteries in the fobs. It's easy and inexpensive. If they still fail, replace 'em. If not, you're money ahead. Sorry, but this isn't rocket science -- although I must admit if you're talkin' fobs on the older C5's it can seem like it.
