Default Thinking about intakes

I'm throwing around the idea of putting a new intake manifold on my Corvette. its a 99 with the stock LS1 intake. I have a vararam, borla stingers and a mild comp cam. no headers yet but I'll do that eventually. my goals with my car are to improve the performance as much as I can without sacrificing drivability or reliability. its a 6 speed daily driver and I don't want to do anything to it that would make it unreliable or a handfull in traffic.

I'm thinking about an LS6 intake (maybe ported) or a FAST. would the 90/90 or the 78 be better with my supporting mods?

I'll eventually put headers on it, althought I'm thinking about shorties with equal length primaries. if I replace the heads it will likely be with stock Z06 parts or a moderate aftermarket option. those mods may be a while off though.

so I'm looking for advice on what type of intake I should consider. if I like the LS6 should I definitely get it ported? if so where's the best place to go for that? or would the FAST be worth it considering my current mods and future goals?

thanks for any info!

Based on what you've said your mod plans are, a ported LS6 intake and ported stock throttle body would easily handle all you have planned. The FAST parts would be much more expensive and be overkill IMO.

A stock LS6 manifold and a tune would be a just fine.

Save you money for long tube headers.

At the risk of answering a question you didn't ask - - - I would get the headers first, then worry about what intake to get.

You will be very happy with the ZO6 intake and a ported TB. A cold air intake headers and a tune,,,you will need to relearn how to drive the car!

Fast would be an overkill unless you plan on getting a big cam and some serious heads.

Why bother with out doing a cam at the same time? Kind of a waste of a mod with out the cam.

I already have a cam. kind of out of order for mods but I had my harmonic balancer go bad and decided to have a UDP put on to replace it along with a cam and dyno tune.

I've read this advice before from some other threads. I could always go that direction first. what's the reasoning behind this order? Better bang for the buck? Will it hurt anything if I decide to go intake first?

I think the headers would be a better bang for the buck personally, then you are gonna get into the shorty vs. lt debate which has obviously been beat to death on here. As far as intakes go, picking up an LS6 intake and having your tb ported will most likely be the consensus on the way to go. LS6 intakes can be had in here in the 300 -350 range easily, and a ported tb for about 125 with yours as an exchange. After reading everything I could on here, that is what I went with, and while I would love to have bolted a nice new Fast 90/90 set up on my car, the LS6 just made more sense.
