chrome z/06 rims I bought for my 03 are starting to pit & peel I want to strip chrome and paint to match factory color is sand blasting the best/accepted method are there alternate (easier) ways to strip the chrome? What kind of paint/coating are used on wheels is seems super durable ,is it a powder coat? Is it just a special clear coat? I'm totally stumped on this one is seems the body shops in my area don't paint wheels they said if one is bad enough to need paint they're better off buying a new one. Anybody got some advice
THANKS BC, went to 3 body shops never thought of a chrome shop , got a couple biker friends ,they're always chroming everything they should know a place I can call. Now if I could get some advice on the paint, its got to be special paint and or procedure as its so durable, any knowledgable paint guys out there?
last week. Went to a few shops in my area.. The common solution told to me was to get the wheels powdercoated..Better than painting..i'm looking into that now. cheers, K

If you use a base coat clear coat systemm there are some VERY durable clearcoats out there. My buddy just had his car painted and he stated that the shop used an extremely tough clear coat on his car. It looked very nice. An automotive paint shop shpuld be able to recommend a good product for that application.

A good basecoat/clearcoat job looks better than powder coat and is just as durable. You want to keep the film builds fairly low to resist chipping. The color options are also better with paint vs powder coat. I've done several wheel paint jobs that look like the day they were applied years later.
