You take the lead in the timed event. All kidding aside, do you have manual or auto transmission? My C5 has an auto and maybe those with manual have a little more room to work on the fuel filter. I don't know this for sure just an assumption on my part. I know there's very little room to work on mine. Even after you get passed the exhaust system that's in the way, still not much room to work.

i have a manual i also have full aftermarket exhaust. i thought it was easy to get to. i knew where it was when i went under there and had all the tools to do the change out. Only problem i had was fuel spillage. Ran down my arm pretty good. I've held the speed record for another pain in the a$$ job on a car too My best friend had a '95 Thunderbird SuperCoupe(3.8 S/C'd car) and the fastest anybody had changed plugs and wires on one was an hour and fifteen minutes. I did it in 36 minutes. I'm not sure if the other guy pre-gapped the plugs or not but i did and i did all of them from the top of the car. I was bookin' cause i had to get them done before i left for work

I'm a little late chiming in on this one, but I changed my fuel filter yesterday and to prevent fuel from running down my arm I wrapped and tied a rag around my wrists. (one on each wrist ) Worked great. Still haven't figured out how to get the leaking fuel to hit the catch can instead of running off in six different directions all over the floor around the can.
