I would suggest the normal stuff...checking the battery cables for security and corrosion. In all fairness, the battery is 6 years old...so it's probably just time.
Also, what are you referring to with regards to a "kick plate and maybe the computer"?
Hi, of course check the cables for tightness and cleanliness at the battery, ground, starter lug, and underhood fuse box. But it sounds as though your battery is done, that would be my first best guess. Take it and have it load tested at Pep Boys, Advance, or Autozone, they don't charge usually.
Then get a new AC Delco and drive on.
Good Luck
I have found that a weak battery will cause a bunch of problems, most of them, here today and gone tomorrow, then back to embarass you at the car show. Get the battery checked first. If it checks OK, then start looking for corrosion, especially around the ground lugs.
thank you to all. I will check that tonight. what was the thing under the kick board on the passenger side floor up near the fire wall?
I have a 2003 Z as well. Your symptoms, as others have already mentioned, are really pointing towards the battery. Mine did similar stuff about 5 months ago. I jumped it off my wife's car to get it running, went straight to the store and replaced the battery. If the battery doesn't fix it, it's probably a loose ground somewhere.
You've got 12.3 volts with no cables attached but when you connect the cables, it drops to 6 volts??? Either a seriously dead battery or you've got something dragging it down badly. First thought is the battery of course.
checked the battery 12.36 volts with terminals off. 6 volts with terminals on. yes yes yes
thank you thank you all.

You have that backwards? Replace the battery, but if a similar symptom exists with a new battery, then you definitely have a grounding problem somewhere. Actually could be a loose hot lead somewhere that is shorting out.
Get that battery swapped and give us an update. Good luck.
