I know the C5 has a geezer reminder feature that beeps when the turn signal is left on too long. My problem is that after 4 years of ownership my 2000 C5 has started beeping as soon as I put the blinker on...additionally sometimes it's an extended beeeeeep and other times just a quick beep other times no beep. Anyone know how to fix this?
I think that feature is inside the IPC. The only way That I know to fix it is to remove the IPC console and figure out which module inside controls it and replace that board or get a new/used IPC.
Try checking the IPC internal contacts and CAREFULLY examine the solder components on the circuit boards. Check the surface mounted resistors. (little flat black boxes that are soldered on each end.) They are KNOWN to be poorly soldered into place and have even fallen off inside the HVAC Control module. I bet you one of those resistors are loose or poorly soldered! That function is a TIME CONSTANT and a loose resistor would cause it to malfunction like that.
I was trying to get rid of the beep and asked the question here a few times. Eventually someone posted up which module produced the noise and its on the IPC
FWIW I'm still living with the beep (PITA with key in, radio on and door open when detailing) as I didn't want to strip down the dashboard to get at it.
Thanks for your reply. That's the most amazing documentation I've ever seen. I feel like if I needed heart surgery and had documentation from you I could do it myself. One question, how do you know it's a bad hazard switch? The documentation makes it doable, but I'd like to be sure it was going to work.
When it does the extended beep press your hazard switch in and out a few times and see if it goes back to normal. I would get a constant beep and would have to quickly toggle the hazard switch to get it to go back to normal. Also that is just a site I used to replace mine. It is not my work and I can not claim it as such. Just passing a great link on to you. Post back the results if you test out the hazard switch.
If in fact your flasher switch is bad and you replace it, dont just throw the old one out. You can take it apart and use the male pins as female connector troublingshooting aids. It will show you if you have a faulty female pin in side a female connector. This problem is very common in out C5s.
