Default Running hot: UPDATE- Problem fixed

3 days ago, I noticed the car was running a little hotter than normal, like around 220. Over the past couple of days it has gotten as high as 240. Also the fans come on but the temp does not go back down much. Coming home today it ran at 240 and only cooled down to 235.

Any thoughts ideas, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx.

Car is bone stock. Temp here is around 70F

Flushed radiator, cleaned radiator and condensor externally. All looked good to start. Replaced thermostat. Let sit in driveway for over an hour and never got over 225F. Fans kicked on around 216F on low and dropped the temp right down. Fans never kicked on high. Took car for a ride and car never got over 196F. Thanks guys for all the help. I appreciate it.

The usual cause is debris stuck in the condensor, either plastic bags that got sucked up, or full of tiny rocks. For the rocks, you need to either blow or wash back outward from between the radiator and condensor with a wand of some kind.

Thanx, I am going to try that tomorrow. I checked the oil for a milky look, as that was my first thought(head gasket), but it was good.

You check your coolant level or add some? I know ours was doing the same thing (running unusually hot) and for some reason the coolant was a bit low. I added some and since then even in 100+ degree weather it was satying where it should be. Just a thought.

Make sure BOTH fans are operating correctly. Then make sure that the radiator/AC condensor is not clogged with debris. There is a space between the actual radiator and AC condenser. If I were you I would remove the Air Bridge and the plastic cover on top of the radiator/AC condensor and look between the two. If you see trash, grass, leaves etc.. thats where your problem lies.

You can try to back flush the stuff out but sometimes, you will end up removing the radiator to properly clean it.

I hit some road debris which damaged the center air dam causing the temp at cruising speed to go much higher than normal. When I put the new one on temps went down again.

I was just trying to figure out my driving route the last few days. I do remember making a wrong turn and going down a stone country road. I sure am hoping this is my problem because I dont know where else to go besides fan reset, water pump, belt, therm., and new hoses.

I had that issue once with my 98 and I replaced the thermostat and it fixed it. Was cheap and a good place to start.
