Default Does anyone know what parameters bring the 10 sec message??

About a month ago I removed the K harness and installed a CLB. My car had 2 recall fixes before I got it,including the one that reprogrammed the computer. While sitting in a drive up lane that was going nowhere for a while,so I turned off the motor leaving the key in the ignition(in the Acc position for a while), when the line finally moved I did a quick turn to start and low and behold I got the "pull key wait 10 seconds" and as it started to move it cut the fuel.Did a quick restart same results, but got enough momentum to roll to the window and actually pull the key and wait a bit longer than needed.Left without further problems. My wheel never did have a lock since I got it,,just the service column lock and the 10sec messages that originally put it out of commission. Does anybody know exactly what causes the wait 10 seconds message??

The key pellet is NOT being read correctly via the module on the front of the ignition cylinder.

The small metal module reads the resistor in the key and that value MUST match with the written value in the BCM.

Heres a pic of the module:

Sometimes the pellet gets dirty or worn. Try cleaning it with alcohol or switching to your spare key to see if it makes a difference.

Do you by chance have a very heavy key ring??????

Hi Bill,,No I only run the key ring with the factory remote fob and a single house key. I cleaned the pellets a few months ago (late winter or early spring. I'll give it another alcohol rub down,,can't hurt!! I was wondering if the turn off ,might have done a partial pull out while waiting, might have confused a sensor or something. So far this is the first and only time something odd has happened since the CLB install. Been quite happy with it so far,,I'm just wondering/hoping that this was kind of an anomaly, brought on by a peculiar circumstance/action. Anything better than alcohol for cleaning the pellet? Any other ideas, suggestions or comments welcomed,as you are one of the acknowledged gurus here.I consider myself a fair "shade tree" mechanic,,but this new computer controlled stuff is a whole new world to me !! On here almost every day looking around for something to learn!

Dont feel bad itzza427. Just for the sake of discussion, here is what mine does to me. First some history...

99 FRC. Never had the recall work done. It caught up to me at work one day. Had it flatbedded to the local stealer and they did the recall, including installing the K harness. I specifically told them they cannot reprogram the ECU due to the custom tune. They unlocked it and put the K harness in. Took it home, ordered a CLB. Installed the CLB module.

Now, obviously the column never locks, but every single time I hop in the car, I get the Pull key wait 10 seconds" message. It never cuts off my fuel, and I just clear the DIC and the message doesn't return until starting the car again. Since all I have to do is clear the messages when I hop in, I'm not f'in with it. I end up fiddling around with it, and it'll end up cutting fuel or some such. So, I clear the message with one press of a button and move on.

Yeah I hope to start saving my nickles and dimes and get a custom tune sometime! I have a CD with all the computer information from when they used my car for the Valvoline Dyno display. They did 13 pulls and the stock ECM kept "learning" that it was going to run WOT. early pulls were rich on the top end ,it kept leaning it out a bit each pull and picking up a bit of power and torque, ended up with 338.92 hp and 345.91 torque at the wheels. Would like to reprogram those A/F ratios in and while they are in there pull the fuel cut off out or reprogram a cut off speed of 250 mph like 8VETTE7 did!! I have my K harness sitting here as a reminder of the General's dance around the issue!!

Good idea! I think it probably just a fluke,,but I'm so gun shy now I'm going to cover ANY practical base anyone comes up with. I know under most circumstances if it happens again it is just a minor inconvenience,,but it can be an embarrassment. This was the Wallgreen drug store drive up and there were 3 cars behind me. More than likely they just thought I stalled it!!I'm going to clean them again ,,JUST IN CASE!!
