So I've been having the fuel gage problem this year, and Techron has done nothing. I heard that this GM stuff (88861011) was better than Techron, so I bought 2 bottles for freakin $20 each.
I swear it's the same bottle that Techron comes in. Does anyone know whether or not it's the same, different, better, or ???
I'm getting ready to store it for the winter, so I want to take my best shot while it sits with a full tank. Dealer said 2 bottles would give me a better chance than one, so that's what I'll do. Do I need to put Stabil in with the gas, or will that diminish the effectiveness of the cleaner? The dealer told me he has several collector cars that he stores for 9-10 months at a time and doesn't use Stabil, so don't worry about it. I'm not as worried about the gas going bad as I am the Stabil harming the cleaner.
Dealer also said no need to worry about starting on an empty tank, etc. Just put the bottles in, run it for a while to get it in the engine (may as well), and I'm good. Is that true, or is there some voodoo with the two tank system such that I need to do something special to get it in both tanks?
Ive had very good luck with Techron. There are TWo different size bottles of techron. The walmart size and the automotive store sizes. The bigger bottle seems to be better suited at resolving the issues. You could add a double dose and see what happens.
Some C5 fuel level sensors are so dirty you either need to remove them and mechanicaly clean them or order and install new sensore. They sell just the sensor element now vise the entire sensing unit $$$$$$$$$
As for storring the car for the winter, just fill the tank with a treatement of Chevron techron inside and it should be good to go for the entire winter.
At a seminar i attended at Carlisle, the technician said that the Techron is the same as the GM additive. But you need to make sure that you get the Techron Plus and to make sure you put in 20 ounces.
Just called and emailed Chevron, and got 2 different guys. The email said that they do make the GM cleaner and they are comparable products. The guy on the phone just kept repeating that they are comparable products. Same thing? Comparable products. Is one better? Comparable products.
And GM wonders why they get a bad rep for ripping people off at the dealership.
COSTCO sells the GM injector/fuel cleaner (looks just like TECHRON in packaging). It's six to a case for about $16 as I recall.
Read the label and see if that would work for you...
