I have a magnetic drain plug on the engine, but i was wondering if GM made one for the gear box and diff i have a 6spd. does anyone have the part #'s? or know of anybody that makes them? thanks alot guys this id the best forum!
My brother-in-law's Toyota van had over 300,000 miles on it when he sold it in perfect running condition - never used any oil and never used a magnetic drain plug. He DID change his oil and filter regularly (3-5000 miles, petroleum-based oils), as well as the auto tranny fluid every two years.
Hey, the filter is designed to catch any particles the size of metal shavings, isn't it?
I agree. Anthing large enough to matter will be caught by the filter. Anything so small as to get through the filter will stay suspended in the oil and come out at your next oil change, along with water, acid, carbon particles and all sorts of other stuff the magnetic drain plug won't get. And have you ever seen any metal particles suspended in the oil on your dip stick?
I had a magnetic drain plug for the oil pan. The magnetic insert was loose. Suppose it breaks of or comes out? I put my regular drain plug back in and threw away the magnetic one. One less thing to go wrong.
