I'm looking to build a track car and what to start with something cheap, as this car will be 90%+ track only. Do you guys think that this car has too much damage? Doesn't really appear to be much structural frame damage but maybe I'm missing something? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...3A1|240%3A1308

That one looks pretty fixable... It only looks to me like a moderate collision Expecially if your planning on doing a track car out of it the frame appears to be untouched up front, there does appear to be some damage in the back but that area isnt entirely crucial..

It can be done up pretty good IMO
I could not disagree more. First thing that sticks out is the car was purchased from an insurance company....which suggests a total. There are plenty of high mile one owner(and more importantly..never wrecked) cars out there that would be a better candidate for a build car.
No way that is a good deal. Ask yourself how much in parts alone would it cost. It would take more than $3000.00 for parts and for $16000.00 you can get a high mile intact car. Then unless you do all your own work there is thousands of dollars of labor to get near a high mile never crashed car.
Also on the creepy side is the missing driver seat AND driver carpet. Was there a really blood fatality? Yikes!

Im sorry that wasnt a hard enough accident to kill the driver, It was most likely taken or sold as a used part from a speculator/ower of the resale car. It does not take much to total these fiberglass bodies. Mainly that extremely low floor pan, That floor pan is apart of the body. It could have very likely taken a hit from the accident which would total it due to extensive labor cost to repair it. If it was a race car it could be patched or something.
I worked at a body shop for a little while, Im still a novice at damage analysis, but it appears to me, that car slid off the road, But didnt strike anything. The rest of the car is intact. This would take out that front bumper and cause damage to that lower rocker like that.
Another shop i worked at the tech didnt put a c5 on the rack right and busted a hole right in the floor- Totalled- Could it be patched up accordingly and work O.K-- Yes.
I once slid a car of mine off the road (hydroplane) and did sililar damage to the car.

yeah that is way high for a wrecked corvette with a salvage title. I wouldnt be suprised if there was more damage to the front end than you can see. They dont salvage a car that just needs a front bumper and a rocker lol that means the repair cost on this car was probably 12k plus. Way too many higher mileage vettes with bodies intact for that price. good luck on whatever you decide
Pass it up. I think theres more damage than meets the eye. Wonder why he didn't include pictures of the underside??? That damage at the rear frame area looks like it could be difficult to repair plus the fuel cell could be damaged also.
The rocker panel is NOT a bolt on part. Its glued on to the frame. Its a PAIN in the **** to replace. The front fender wells are also glued to the frame. They could be damaged also.
Yea,,,,,it can be fixed but,,,,,how much time and money do you really have to invest in it before it becomes overwhelming?
Is it cheaper to buy a track prepped car from somebody who has one for sale and on which all the work has been done to prep it for the track, never mind the repairs that this one requires.
I tried to sell my 01 Z 06 with 86k miles for 18k and did not get a single call. And it in decent shape...would make a good track car. I was trying to get an 06 Z06...
I would look for a high mileage undamaged car...should be easy to find one in the 16 to 18k range.
