i found instruction on installing long tube headers on "LS1 how to" but i ended up going with shorty headers, i understand they are easier to install, i dont wanna do any more work than i have to, so im lookin for instuctions on exactly what to remove
thanks
I have B&B shorty headers and the install was easy.
I did it on Ramps and jack stands. It's like swapping stock exhaust manifolds but the headers are a lot lighter. Most people use the stock exhaust manifold bolts, but I switched to ARP header studs and used GM exhaust manifold gasket #12617944.
I would go up from the bottom. You may have to loosen your starter. (leave the wires connected, but don't forget to unhook your battery) Remove your plugs also and swap them out if there old. You also may want to remove the air tubes for access.
Did mine from the top, took off the frc's, wires, and the coil packs, loosened the belt tensioner, and installed that way. You will realy like them.
Did you have to remove the valve covers and/or loosen the starter?
Did you also install the B&B or were they BBK or another? I will do this early next year...

I unbolted the coil packs and rested them back on the intake manifold, without unplugging them. I left the valve covers on. I did remove the alternator (2 or 3 bolts and a plug, real easy). I'm pretty sure I did everything from the top (it was a little while ago).
The header studs made it easy to bolt them up with gaskets in place...
I think the whole job took me 6 or 7 hours and that included a tunnel plate install and new plugs and wires all at the same time. That even included lunch and a parts run........
Yes on the alternator..pretty easy to do, No on the valve covers and they were BBK's!
