Default NC Inspection Question

Anyone in North Carolina know if I can pass inspection in Wake County with gutted cats? Should say "If I was to gut the cats" Do they actually hook anything to the exhaust during the inspection

Everything in NC is done via your on board diagnostics now (no more sniffers for 1996+). You can have the cat sensors mapped out so you won't throw the catalytic converter codes, else you'll fail. Find someone that can tune your car to take care of it. R.P.M. in Garner is one tuner.

I also believe that in 2009, NC will eliminate the inspection stickers altogether. However, you won't be able to renew your registration if they don't have a current record of your inspection. Less work for the street cops now.

Also in NC, only cars 35+ years old are no longer tested, visual or otherwise.

I go to Pete Smith in Roseville for my inspections.

They are good enough to not have to put my car in the station but run the computer cable out the back.

What if any codes are popping up?

O/T
Pete Smith is also who mounts and balances my track wheels and tires. $12 each.

Actually, they already have gone to the new inspection process. So you won't have a sticker now.
Mayhem Motorsports in Raleigh is also a great tuner to think about.

Man I so screwed myself today... here is how it works...

5 of my cars actually need the registration / tags renewed in November and December. Four of them the inspection is due in October an November.... Today I took the BMW to get inspected and paid my 30 bucks.. They took the sticker off and said they do not use them any more... Cool ... So off to the DMV with my 5 renewal statements. I worried that they would not renew on the 3 others cuz the inspection was due.... but they said no worries your next inspection is listed on the registration and it is not due till its time to renew the registration... The inspection will line up with the registration.... My Corvette who was due inspection in October is now not due till October 2009. I screwed myself by taking the BMW first to the inspection station spent 30 bucks when i did not need to. The Corvette and 2 others gets a free pass All of this started November 1st

no stickers... test is the same now.... but your new registration will say the month it is due. so my corvette is due now according to the sticker but I renewed the tags today and the new due date is November 2009
So I got a free pass

Cops will no longer check inspection stickers... they dont exist but computer system must be updated with current inspection when its time to renew your tags....
