I've used a soapy solution to keep under them when I place them on. I've seen people use window cleaner for small decals, as long as you're indoors. That dries too quick in the sun or with good airflow.
I used to tint windows for a living and always used dawn and water. I don't recommend using windex or any ammonia based products because it breaks down some adhesives.
