it broke?? what did urs look like? i got mine from O'reillys, just had 2 clips that went inside the bearing. should be able to take it. i just used lots and lots of small force hits and it finally made it ways out
WRONG The pilot bearing is turning whenever the engine is running. It is pressed into the crankshaft; and the input shaft runs in it.
It's turning all the time when the engine is running; I agree with that but the input shaft isn't spinning inside the pilot bearing needles unless you have the clutch pedal pushed down. All the pilot bearing does is support the input shaft and keep it centered. I still say if his pilot bearing was out he would hear the noise when he stepped on the clutch pedal rather than when he lets it out and engages it because that's when the input shaft and crank start turning together. When the clutch engages the input shaft stops spinning inside the bearing and starts spinning at engine RPM. Maybe I didn't explain myself very clear before but I understand how a clutch works and have replaced lots of them myself in everything from semi trucks and tractors to my own C4 ZR-1.

mine was not a slide hammer style, it was press out style with 2 fingers. The fingers kept breaking off.... I will try a different puller this time.
I did rig it up so that I could strike it with a hammer though, yep, tried that too.
It sounds like you have seen this before... is that true? "errrrp" is an excellent interpretation. If you have dealt with this before and it is more than just a guess, I will plan to do it tomorrow.
And no, I have no oil leaks from the bellhousing. I don't think I damaged the plug as I didn't really have much room to swing a hammer to compress the grease anyway. The pilot bearing puller I was using broke 4 or 5 times while trying to remove the bearing. I kept welding it back together but finally just gave up and put the car back together.....
Yes, this happened to my friends 99. It was the pilot and it made that strange noise mostly on "normal" takeoff from first. Baby the pedal or launch hard and the noise was different. It just took a certain amount of side load on the bearing to do it. His was dry as a bone.
