Do GM body Panels come Painted?
I knew it would happen. i was leaving work, and a couple of guys were standing outside kinda pumping me and i couldn't resist.
I got it in a straight line and hit it around 30. !st, 2nd, 3rd,4th it went around and broke my rear wheel and cracked my rear quarterpanel. The undercarriage looks fine. I checked all the suspension and no damge happened there. One strange thing, My passengers side rear axle had no nut holding it to the drive hub or rear rotor. I think it's around a 30mm nut. Gotta look into that. But, I ordered a new quarter panel from GM and ask the guy if I could get it in Machine Silver. This is a 2004 Z06 by the way. He said he needed the serial number but he never asked for the paint code. I asked him again and he said it would be painted. Do they offer painted panels or is he maybe thinking on having it done? Talk about a heart stopper. I've had the car about three months. Gotta get it to stick. This little job was $1100. Thanks.

How did the car get around, did you turn off your active handling ?

and it looks like they have one for $175. Just need to be sure of color.
I had the handling off. I've already ordered a new one from GM. It supposed to be here tomorrow. They have a body shop so I'll just get them to prep it and spray it. If it's too outrages, I'll do it myself. My main concern is color match. Just got the wheel and one crack above the wheel when it apparently hit a pole or something. it must have been low. I've never had the car to come loose after third before. it got up tire speed so fast that controling it was like painting a snake in the road. I'm just glad it got it in the spot it did. In either other direction it would have been a major uh oh. Has anyone else found what I call a half shaft axle nut just on one side? Meaning there is a nut holding the axle on the drivers side but not one on the passengers side. I've been an ASE mechanic for 20 years now and I've never saw this. I'll check the service manual but the threads have never been used.

You should have put it in competition mode that way you would still have had the AH.
There should be nuts on both sides. I believe they are 33mm off the top of my head.

You need to replace that axle nut and check the torque on the other side. The GM part number is 10257766. They should be torqued to 118 ft-lbs. The wheel cannot come all the way off, but it is not good for the axle splines to be floating without the nut locking the axle into the bearing hub.
They do take a 33mm socket which you can get at O'Reillys, or any place that sells sockets for front wheel drive axles.
Each year or most years had different paint codes.
Your still going to want it painted and blended into the other body pannels.
Not saying it will match, most likely it will be an OK match, not be a good match.
I have an MY 03. and after few body panels replaced, and painted with 03 MY paint code, I still have three different shades of 03 MY.
