So I had a tune put on the coupe (99) along with some exhaust work. When I went to get into my ride the FOB wouldnt work. I had the guys come out and check it and they reset the FOB. Okay...strange but what the hell do I know. I have often suspected that I have some electrical issues with the car so I wasn't so supprised. Overall I would say I have every issue that is listed on this forum with the C5...but that is okay I am totally fine with that...once I drive off...all is forgiven...
However, since the tune, two times now I have gotton into the car (after it set for several hours) and turned the key...I get power but the engine wont turn. Acts like the pull key wait 10 sec thing but those words arn't displayed on the DIC. When it wont start I check codes and I get 3 RFA codes (that I didn't write down) clear them and then the car starts fine. The codes don't reset right away. Not sure what causes them to trigger or even if the car starts again becuase I cleared the codes or just waited long enough.
Anyone have any ideas? What is the RFA and what does it do? And please don't tell me I have to hit the hazard button to turn and start the car now LOL...
Thanks for the response. The codes had the H with them that much I remember. I'm not even sure if the RFA and starting issue is connected. I have some time next weekend and am going to do some trouble shooting. I do get a No comm on the BCM and two codes for LDCM and two for the RDCM. These codes wont clear and have always been there. Everything seems to function so I have never spent any time looking into them...I always invisioned troubleshooting those codes as trouble waiting to happen. The Batt is new but I have been wanting to clean the grounds as sugested in this forum. Time to dust off the OHM meeter.
A No Comm on the BCM will stop it from starting. The BCM and PCM communicate a hidden password between them which is the security to prevent someone from swapping them out to rip off your ride. If the BCM isn't talking, its not going to run. Look for water dripping onto it. Since your RDCM is having issues, check the accordian tube in the door jam for a possible shorting wire to the frame. Check for Bill Curlee's posts and pictures on this. Next is the security light...is it flashing? If so, start looking at your key's pellet or the ignition switch for those contacts. Clutch switch if you have the MM6 tranny. Do you hear a click near the BCM when you turn the key? There is a comm "star" connector adjacent to the BCM where the comm goes through. I think Bill's got a picture of that too, but its something to look at and make sure its on properly. Its like a bridge connector.
